I've got my free ticket coupon from the four disc Fellowship dvd.

I saw the trailer on Saturday when the girlfriend and I went to see Solaris (I liked it better when I first saw it and it was called 2001: A Space Odyssey... ) and she had to keep me from shouting out from excitement.

I seriously can't wait to see this. And I still can't believe it's the same director as Bad Taste, Deal Alive, and Meet the Feebles

woot!

I've never anticipated a movie like I am with this one. They left so much on the table at the end of the first. Now if Liv would get nekkid, it wouild be the perfect movie!

I recall a documentary where Tolkien said that he did not make an allegory to anything. He's denied that it was an allegory to Christ, WWI (which he participated in), WWII (which his sons participated in). He simply wanted to write a mythology for Britain which was lost when the Saxons took over.

you are right, for the most part. Tolkien did simply state that he wanted to right a good story. However, he has said that the books were given substance from his studies of the Bible and his Christian faith.

I for one don't see much of the allegorical references, (such as the hobbits being the jews, since they will carry the burden of the ring), but thought it was an interesting point.

Personally, I just think the movies are cool.

The LOTR trilogy is the better of the two works of fiction...

Why do bible thumpers find it necessary to compare every book ever written to the friggin bible?

"I just got the Chiltons guide for the 1969 Shelby! Did you know that it's an allegory for the trials of Christ? The way that the shifter bushings have to be set just so on the crossmember. Absolutely brilliant!"

On another note...
I have been looking forward to this as well. I got the free ticket in the box set too!

If you pick up a recent copy of the Lord of the Rings, there's an introduction by Tolkien himself which is very enlightening.

He goes on to say at one point, "I detest allegory." He actually has a paragraph or more to say about the topic, which should end any debate about how Frodo is the Messiah.

I know he was a devout Christian along with his friend and colleague C.S. Lewis, but not everything has hidden meaning.

I bought tickets online a week ago. I can't wait to see it after work on Wednesday! I should be getting to my 13th reading of the trilogy soon, it's almost an annual tradition.

I got the free ticket coupon, but some of the biggest-newest theaters here are AMC, which I dont recall seeing on the list of theaters honoring the tickets.

I've got one of these too... but isn't it "no coupons or passes" for the first few weeks for most "big" movies?

When people look forward to something, what's the harm in counting down? It's nice to have a different type of distraction once in a while. Last movie I saw was The Ring. Befire that it was Spiderman. If you've been busy as me, "you'd get it".

You real LOTR fans are going to hate me, but for me, it's 8 days until the Two Towers!

I'm going to a screening through a connection with the Writer's GUild to see it on 12/11. When the first film came out, I really didn't like it. I had no knowledge of the story, and was unaware that the actual ending to the first movie really should have been:

to be continued...

This is a 9 hour movie that is being shown in 3 parts; I was honestly expecting the ring to get destroyed by the end of this film, and some other adventure to take place in the next one.

All that being said, I watched the DVD last night, and it was much more enjoyable the second time around. Now that I have some knowledge of the story, I think this movie will be enjoyable as well.
