Go try one. I swear, you might be surprised. If you get in and feel like your nipples are sore and your breasts swell...bail. But minivans are perfect for what you describe. |

I came close to doing that. Yesterday.
I went to look at some of these at a local lot and there was a really nice z06 out front. I didnt stop because i wanted it and if i stopped its possible i would have done it. Going home to explain that would have ended like ****. |

Yeah...selling "corvette" as the new family car...you'd need an I25 wang that skeets diamonds to make that work.

Start practicing now by hard-parking in sub-compact parking spaces.
Double credit if it's a sub-compact HANDICAPPED parking space! Last edited by somebody else; 10-05-2012 at 08:59 PM. |

Why can't she drive the family car while you get something sportier with a beater "family suv/thing" as backup? Or do you usually haul the kids around?
That's my plan, BRZ + used 3-5k 4wd Isuzu Trooper/4Runner/Xterra |

I like the Nissan Quest as far as minivans go. LE trim is pretty swank.

I love our minivan. It's not my DD, but it is awesome. Spend less on one, save on gas, save money for 818 or bike to feel manly.

So her car is all ****ed up cosmetically and we would take a bath on selling/trading it and its otherwise a good vehicle. So we have to keep hers. Which means we could sell mine, i take hers and she gets a minivan, but i dont like driving her car (2009 forester na). Either way, we're getting a newish family hauler and i'd rather not have a large second payment or a not so great car to trust with my family for frequent long distance travels. She loves her car, i'm happy to just have one other one. |

I saw your requirements, and my recommendation may not fit your list perfectly, but hear me out.
If I were looking for a large SUV, I'd definitely get the Ford Excursion with the 7.3 Liter PowerStroke Diesel (Pre-2003). Decent mileage, bulletproof motor and definitely big enough. You can tow whatever you want and that motor is good for 300k miles easy. I'd at least consider it! |

That V10 is the triton engine. It's the opposite of the diesel. It's unreliable, it get literally 12 miles a gallon in mixed driving condition and won't come close to the 300k that the PowerStroke will get without a hiccup. The diesel is considered the 7.3 Liter V8. Get a chip, get rid of the cats in the exhaust and open up the intake and enjoy your 17 to 19 MPG in mixed conditions! |

How big of a boat and how often?
I towed an 18 foot enclosed trailer with my racecar in a 2000 Yukon XL. Great, luxurious truck with the hides of 87 cows on the seats. Here's the problem. The hard brake lines on all large GM pickups and suvs rust after 10 years. Not fun when a brake line pops as you're coming to a stop light pulling a boat with hydrolically operated surge brakes (what happened to me). If you replace all the hard lines, the windows will stop working and other random things will stop working....like AC. Next gen...starting in 07 needs a transmission in between spark plug changes....so figure every 45k miles. I'm not aware if they fixed the brake lines, but GMs in general tend to self destruct at 10 years. both gens are great for towing. I now have an explorer and only pull a snowmobile trailer. Far higher quality. Nothing has broken, but it's only 5 years old at this point. Far, far smaller but the 3rd row seat worked fine for my 2 kids. The Yukon XL was definately better as they could be placed in the 2nd left and 3rd right seats, belted in and they couldn't touch each other. They could, however smile at each other which causes yelling and crying. Don't get any Ford with the 5.4. Read about randomly spitting out spark plugs. |

It sucks down gas. Really, excursions are terrible. They don't feel as large as you'd expect on the inside.
