Thanks man. Me and my father took the thing apart the other day... found 'one' metal shaving. We're having a trans shop check it out because it actually looks like its still good. We will see. I hope I dont have to spend 500$ on a used one because I really dont have the cash right now.

my mechanic told me my r160 had a ton of metal shavings in it (from doing donuts) when he did my 6 speed swap/rear diff conversion. He did this back in january and said my diff is about to go.. long story short im still spinning all four to this day. The r180 is way stronger than the 160, i think you'll be ok.

Well, update: Messed with the diff more... alot more metal came out. My dad is positive the bearings are dead, and according to the trans shop to change those bearings people usually kill the ring gear/input shaft in the process. They said i'll end up spending more to rebuild it and it still might be damaged goods. Looks like i'm ordering a new R180 as soon as possible.. Yay, i'm further in debt!

^Hey thanks man. I ended up paying Nick(slvr04sti) today via paypal for the diff. Hopefully the car will moving again shortly..

side note: Went to a junk yard today and got some plugs I can use to wire up the headlights/blinkers/sidemarkers. Im not even sure if they can work, they're off a 94 impreza L. They appear to be very similar though. Going to go splice the doors and headlights in this weekend, then the only stuff the splice is the HVAC/blower motor. So once the diff comes in, I have a few little things to do, and i'm done.... hopefully.

Sidemaker/headlight plugs are the same 93-01, they'll work just fine. You're getting closer.

Interior pic?

Nice, i'm going to splice them in tomarrow and start on the doors, didnt get around to doing it this weekend. Diff should be in on wednesday..

Ill take some interior shots tomarrow.. there is zero interior, and no dash at the moment. Everything is zip tied down/out of the way.

edit: Does anyone know where i can find the fuse box layout for the interior box?

Got alot done today.. sorted a ton of the electrical stuff out, got the rest of the lights and the blinkers to work properly. Also got all the doors spliced in. Fixing the radiator tomarrow (doesnt fit because of exhaust heatshield.. so i'm cutting a peice out of it, flushing coolant + installing samco rad hoses) Haven't "really" been able to drive the car because of the rad problem, the left side sits on the exhaust heat shield so the hose rubs against the alternator pulley at times. Just short test runs..

Thanks. Ill have a ton of pics real soon, the car has been up at my fathers station getting the rest of the work done. Easier up there... air tools.. every tool I could need... lifts, etc. I just did the radiator today, cleaned up some wiring.. samco hoses in.. Rained today so I couldnt do much. Looks like getting the wiper motor to work is going to be a little annoying as I may have forgotten to poke the connector thru the firewall. Lucky there is no dash in. Pics soon.... also gonna bring the car home soon because I can pretty much drive it anywhere now, and legally!

Im not positive on pics at the moment... should be nice next few days, I might try to wash/wax her tomarrow befor I bring back up to the shop to finish a few things. I drove her home today after aligning her!!! Makes a few odd noises.. a new noise aswell.. constant "squeek" from the back. Not terrible surprised though the problems seem to come like that.. once one is fixed another rears its head. Took it on the highway also for the first time. Shes riding very nice! Got almost everything spliced.. more to come

Update: I'm somewhat confused about whats going on with the car latley. I really should do a compression test check. The car puffs out a cloud of smoke when shes cold and I start her up. If I start her up, drive her for whatever amount of time, shut her down, then start her back up a half hour later or so, no smoke at all. There has even randomly been(few and far between) cold starts with no smoke at all. I dont get it. It smells of... richness/slight oil smell. Its hard to make out exactly what it is. The smoke is not blue, definatly not white, just a light greyish cloud. SOO, I went to my dads station today. Car has been making some noises, I wanted to double check the diff fluid just to be safe. Diff is fine, so I start checkin things out underneith the car while its on the lift. Hmm... so I see oil on the resonator and on the flex part of the exhaust (with the steel mesh). I try and find where the hell it came from but I dont see ANYTHING. There is some oil underneith the turbo.. but its hard to tell exactly what its from, when I first first got the car running the top oil line to the turbo was loose and a ton of oil came out. So It could be from that.. or it could be from a leak somewhere there, or on the turbo. Or the turbo itself could be going? The only place I could think that it came out was the input part of the trans where the driveshaft goes in.. could have came out slightly or got loose when I took the rear out when I grenaded it. So I check the engine oil, and it's barely above the L. Wtf?! Ok so i'm burning/losing oil somehow.. I drove the car home from my dads shop (6-8 miles at most) then drove it twice after I was home, just short distances to stores. Check the oil again this morning, its about a half centimeter below the F mark. (when I last checked it befor leaving my dads shop it was totally full) Is this potentially a harmless thing?(highly doubtful) My dad made a suggestion that it could be still "breaking in" because it hadnt been started for so long.. and I still havent really driven it a ton. That doesn't really seem feasable to me. So.. im looking for suggestions on what to do. Compression test, etc, what else? Could the turbo seals or turbo in general be dead? Is it normal to burn alot of oil with the STi engines? (Remember im still fairly new to this engine) I know boxer engines can consume a bit of oil, but I wasnt expecting it to be almost at the L mark. Theres an oil line on top of the turbo, and there is another one right? on the side of it? That one appeared totally dry. So frustrating.. this car has been rightfully dubbed the "neverending problem" months ago and the name still holds true.

I would definitely check the oil lines for the turbo.... Sounds like those could be suspect, especially if they were loose before. Make sure they're not loose, cracked, or pinched(from over tightening).

My car burns a little oil, but not nowhere near that much. Keep us posted!! Good Luck

I didn't even know 2002+ clusters would *fit* in a GC dash...

Didn't read the thread through, but is there cutting involved for that?

I see you have the SPT intake, too. I like the looks of it. There's legions of turbo guys who say intakes are bad news on the EJ turbo engines, though... I need to sit down and read through some stuff before I decide if I'll get it, post-swap.

Yeah they fit, but the bottom left and right corners are left with holes pretty much as the cluster is a different shape. Yep, definatly some cutting involved in that. On the dash and the cluster. And yeah, the SPT has been treating me well. I have also read up on the intake debate... generally I find that there are a certain few intakes that work with the car, and others are bad news. SPT being one of the supposed compatable intakes. Sounds great, I didnt really do it for a huge power increase. I was missing parts of the stock setup so I just picked this up.

^Thank ya!

Drove the car for a half hour today. Didnt go above 4500, but definatly made the turbo spool a bit. Still smoking at startup, and very slightly at idle (only when cold idle, once shes hot there is zero smoke at idle). Weird thing is... I havent added a drop of oil since I last got home from my dads place, and when I checked it at that point it was a half a centimeter below the F. Yesterday, drove it for 10 minutes, checked the oil... almost a full centimeter ABOVE the F. And when I checked it today, still above the F. What the hell is going on with these crazy oil level readings man!

edit: If this accounts for anything, the car feels very healthy. I notice no difference in power since the first drive.
