Just wondering if the dealership knew we were tracking the car, will they void the warranty?

I don't want to say I'm paranoid or confident I don't have the problem, but it seems like there's simply no good early warning signs, so if you want to track your car, track your car. If your engine is going to blow, there's nothing you can do about it. I think after a second hard track day, I'll feel relatively confident about my engine's condition.

And my build date is 07/08, so I have been somewhat holding my breath until I get past the last known mileage for defective motor.
(sorry for a little OT)
Exactly! I usually beat all my turbo cars from the first day. Never had one issue! My forester had 6 miles on it when I bought it. From that 6 miles I would leave work sideways and come into work sideways.([email protected]!! SF.org doent need to know) Same thing with my 02 wrx never had an issue except for the clutch and flywheel).
As you guys know the 04-06 cars, any of the 2.5 turbo cars, loved to run rich. It seems to me with the new emissions (that pump thing), the AVCS, lowering the rev limit really hurt these cars. These cars need to run on the rich side, or you will have major issues. It doesnt help that all gas is really oxygenated, has methenol in it, is way lower on the octane level compaired to japan where the engine was originally designed. Im going to call my rep tommorow and see what the deal is. He'll tell me the truth... Ill keep you guys informed. im really looking for an 09 wrx too. These engines are really starting to piss me off...

Sorry to hear that. Good luck. I'll add you once you get the VIN.

You got a tune before the failure, though, correct? The list is really for stock unmodified cars.

Ironically, I was about to get tuned, and then it popped. So no, no tune.

As you stated via PM, the custom tune was started and then the motor went, so to be consistent, I won't add you to the list. We want to try to keep the list to cars with no engine related mods.

I think you should still add him. Just put an asterisk next to him or something. Its important for guys to know that tuned cars still get this.

This is a little different as the custom tune was never finished. The failure occured in the middle of the tune. We already had SOA customer service tell someone to not believe everything you read on Nasioc because those failures were due to modifications. Obviously that's false, but we don't want give Subaru an excuse by putting any modified cars on the list.

This is true, but the failure may have occurred even if he had not taken the car to the tuner. Maybe a separate list should be kept to include all cars including modified ones. If this is really a bearing issue then modding might speed up the failure but a failure this early on is still not acceptable.

This is the first modified car with a failure that I'm aware of, so a list of one would be pointless. One less on the main list isn't going to make a difference either.

I think it should be on the list; it would have went anyway. However, I would maybe just make an additional note like you have done with the no specified VIN vehicles. Now we would have one paragraph for vehicles without specified VIN and one paragraph for modified vehicles that blew. Although frankly Philly do you really want us to put your name and VIN on a list when in the same thread it has become apparent that you have a modified car...Tea cups if you do decide to add his VIN in any way maybe you should re-confirm via PM with him the situation.

I think it just taints the list. Then Subaru can say, "they have modified cars on that list". Doesn't matter if it is only one, it then reduces the credibility of the entire list.

One hundred percent correct , we can not let Subaru use
That one modified car to taint the rest of the vehicles on
The list .
This is the only way to force Subaru to do the right thing.

Ok, I guess I see where you are coming from (you are still apparently holding hope that something will come of this from Subaru's end). In the future if a number of documented failures occur on modified vehicles we should keep track of it. But for now, I agree with you.

Look guys, this is a scientific experiment. You have to have the stock map on there or else it throws the data off. Simple as that. As for as his failure, that is up to Subaru. IMHO if he has the rod knock like in the video, SOA should warranty it regardless if it was being tuned or not. These stock short blocks blow ring lands before rod bearings typically.

It would do well for all of his posts about his failure to go away. For his own sake.

Bring them back once he knows what SOA is going to do/not do for him.

I am afraid to even put on a CAI on my new car. A tuned car however should not contribute to disintegrated main bearings. Abnormal piston wear, premature detonation yes. But a slightly leaned out AF na. I know I did some reading that said that just adding a CAI changed the AF by .04. to the lean side, if Subaru tunes the car rich from the factory then this would only serve to get it closer to the 14.7 AF. Not trying to start an argument here just stating that these motors should be able to handle a little more abuse then normal driving.
