Default Ring Gap Question

Got my new rings/pistons last week, so over the weekend I started to assemble my bottom end!!! Well, I had to get oversized rings that need the ring gap corrected...I have a service manual for my old EJ25 engine, but I'm building a EJ22-T short block. Does anybody know the specs for the ring gap on the EJ22-T, or know where I could find them???? My guess would be the gap should be slightly larger on a turbo engine because of the added heat which inturn means added expansion of the rings. Maybe this expansion would be minimal, but I want to make sure.

Kyle

also from my performance engine classes when i was in college we did a lot of american v8's and a few smaller engines on a regular basis. when we file fit rings by hand we usually did .004" per inch of bore for NA motors and anywhere from .005"-.007" per inch of bore for forced induction based on the customers request. just thought i'd add that if it helps. i'm sure there's better info at that link. goodluck dude. oh yeah and make sure u file them from the outside in and keep the ends square with each other, i've seen bad things happen from poor ring filing. bah, i'll shut up u prob already know all this haha.

The best people to talk to about ring gaps is the manufacturer. RSEnigmas #'s are a decent starting point but seem a bit on the large side. It is such an absolutely critical dimension to get right and most people er. on the side of too large (for good reason). If you get the ring gap as small as absolutely possible you end up with an all around better engine in the end. If you can't get actual expansion #'s from the manufacturer RSenigmas numbers should be decent.

yeah thanks no-coast. we had a lot of ppl who didn't know and since we were on a time schedule we always ended up on the large side to be safe like you said. end gap is very important. if u can get the number definately do so. a lot of my internal work is on chevy small blocks tho so don't be suprised if i'm off for subaru numbers. its remarkable that when we did mild upgrades on say a chevy 350, a simple thing like .004" per inch of bore and making sure they're all exact for each cylinder got us about 20-25 crank hp. cylinder seal is crucial. goodluck dude.
