Default Not hitting target boost on Gabedude's stage 1 map

I flashed gabedude's r29 map 2 days ago did a few logs and everything looked great. Car was running strong and hitting 13.5 psi all day long. This morning on my way to work the car wouldnt boost over 6 psi in any gear. I was starting to think it could be due to the air temps but i'm not sure. The last few days have been around 35-50* or so on my way to work it was about 15*. Would that cause the computer to cut back boost at all? or should i start searching for a boost leak. I'm planning on datalogging tonight when i get home from work to try and get some more info on the problem. Anyone have any thoughts as to what the problem may be in the mean time?

The only thing that would cut boost to 6 PSI would be dropping IAM due to knock. You need to go log it and see what your IAM is at. The map is setup so it will drop IAM if you get more than 4 degrees FLKC, which is pretty easy to do if you are driving it hard. This is the first time I have heard of it on that map though, it is super conservative. Definitely log it and see where your IAM is at.

I'll have to log it tonight, Cause the funny thing is that I wasnt driving hard. Left home car was already warmed up hopped on the parkway, pushed the gas about half way in 3rd and no boost. I just went looking for a leak. Found nothing. Went out for a drive and was driving to the store real quick to get coffee and the car drove like it did before pulled hard right away. So i'm starting to wounder that maybe it was due to the cold temps and being exposed to that for the first time? I'll try to get my wife to bring my laptop down here to work and do a pull on the ride home to see whats going on with the car.

Well i logged on the way home iam was 0 when i hooked up the laptop and left and from what I can see it knocked a little bit on my inital pull. But what worries me is when i was pulling off into a rest area to check my logs i was cruising along in 5th gear i wish i was logging at the time cause i stepped on the gas to move over a lane and the car surged up to 26 psi or so and hit the fuel cut, scared the crap out of me lol. The pull that i made earlier getting onto the road didnt look all that bad but no iam was learned and kc was in the negative for a bit. Any thoughts. and the atmospheric psi was 15.09 if that makes any difference

Do you have any engine mods? Your logs look...interesting....

What gear was that log from?

Wow. IAM=0. You're going to have to find out what's causing that.

You'll need to reset your ecu and log 100% of your driving until you find out where your IAM is dropping.

Car is stock except for an spt catback. I reset the ecu last night and it climbed back to iam=1. Now i'm running into over boost issues in 5th gear at partial throttle. Think the wgdc needs to adjust. Gonna log some more to figure out whats going on.

Those logged loads are way too high for that map. That map is made for stock parts only, but you only have a catback?

Your boost line to the WG actuator has an issue I bet. If you overboost to 20+ PSI that would cause IAM to drop to 0.

Definitely look for hard part problems before doing any other pulls or resetting the ECU. That is not normal on this map and I have never seen it occur on any car running it. This map has been out for a year now with many people running it w/o issue.

Do this:

0 all of the Initial and Max WGDC tables. Then flash and drive. Make sure you only hit 8-9 PSI max. If that is all ok, then lower WGDC. Your high loads with that amount of timing is causing the knock. It could be because you are below sea level (14.7 PSI Atmospheric Pressure is sea level).

So check the boost line your saying? I checked that the other night. No leaks or anything that i could see or hear. And just to make sure the boost line is the small line that you tap into for the boost gauge correct?

I agree with gabe, it sounds like you blew the small line off the turbo compressor, or maybe it's cracked/broken and it's causing you to overboost.

It's also possible the line came off the wastegate actuator. Check that one as well.

Also another thing...

Your IAM is zero, you still have negative feedback and negative KC at only 6 degrees of timing and 12psi. Sounds lean to me partner. You should probably also double check the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator.

Or maybe the line is being restricted by the T that was added for the boost gage?

Well I just finished going over all the boost lines with a fine tooth comb and found no cracks, leaks or anything wrong. I reflashed the car with the r29 map again drove up the road very gently and the IAM shot right up to 1. Drove around for a little bit did a few pulls all logs looked good. Mild knock on my first pull but on the second and third no more knock. I still have the problem overboosting in 5th around 3k rpm. The boost shoots up real quick and then settles out. Gonna try and lower the WGDC a little bit to smooth out the boost a little and prevent the overboost which throws a cel

It is odd for it to spike that high. You may have an intermittent electrical problem with the stock BCS, but they typically fail in the closed state.

I have used Gabe's r29 map as a starting point for a car I tuned and it worked fairly well but definitely had lots of room left in it. On my particular example the AFs richened up severely on boost transition and caused the car to knock. Leaning it out (even on 91 octane) to 11.2 at boost onset tapering to 10.8 by redline cured it, and made the car run a lot better). We also were unable to get boost to hold 13.5 reliably in 4th and 5th so I elected to run 14.5 psi with cautious timing. This was at 14.2 psia and temps in the 40s.

Well the map still uses the stock fuel map. So there is a world of improvement there to be had. And the short term knock with the boost onset was showing up for about 2 or 3 pulls on my logs and the ecu pretty much learned to compensate for it on my car. Runs pretty good now after i adjusted the WGDC a little bit which smoothed out the 3k rpm jump when i stepped on the gas. But its really seeming to be weather dependent and around here the temps have been so drastic my car has been a pia due to it. one day its 50* then the next its 15*

Yeah that map is pretty much the stock map with the sawtooth timing removed, stock fuel, ETC settings changes, etc. Basicaly all driveability stuff. It is meant as a plug and go solution or for a good starting point. I have used it on all of the 06-07 WRX's I have tuned. Lower the timing, lean it out, and up the boost. Monster maker!

Oh and ben, nice video on youtube about datalogging.

Where is your boost gage connected?

Try logging TD Integral and TD proportional. Do this log at 15F and 50F. If TD integral is positive at 50F and negative at 15F, then you need to adjust your WGDC by IAT compensation table.

I'll have to start logging Turbo dynamic stuff. Trying to find some good info any what exactly those maps do. I really don't like changing variables that i don't know much about. As for my boost gauge its off the wastegate pressure line.

And gabe I must say its a great starting point. Once my wideband gets here and i get on a dyno this thing is gonna be a beast, cant wait.

This is the wrong spot. That T between the turbo, the BCS and the WG actuator is very important. This is your issue. Buy a brand new T with restrictor pill and tap into the line to the BOV for your boost gauge.

BTW, thanks for the props on the map.

Not sure if anyone will even read this due to the date of this thread, but will I be safe to use this map in the winter months here in Utah?
