I saw the same thing last week but it looked like all four were blown. Her Pontiac Sunfire was see sawing after every little bump. You should see the stuff I do. Not in my shop. But working heavy diesel you see stuff regular joes don't see. A lot of commercial vehicles should not be on the road.

We work on oil trucks all the time. Lots of those guys shouldn't be able to drive. Like the blown up clutch disk picture. They beat the living **** out of those trucks. Usually dodge or ford trucks.

It's been kind of slow at the shop I only have one picture of some oil that you can see the sludge just from pulling the dipstick. That's about it though.

It really is crazy. Missing brake components. Rigged components. Suspensions the same way. I seen one the other day where the guy lost the duals and drum and he just chained the rear axle on the trailer and kept going. It was a fuel tanker, too. Leaning and looked loaded.

You must be unfamiliar with chain driven vehicles...

My mother is one of these people. She asked me to stop by and change a headlight bulb for her. I don't know how long it's been out, but the bulb was broken, and there was a green buildup on the filament leads. W/e, easy job nonetheless, I've never seen a bulb shatter like that inside a headlight without some kind of impact.

Then she asks "where's the oil dipstick, it's been making a noise for a while." I say "it's here (I point to yellow ring near exhaust manifold), and what kind of noise, like a tickticktick?" She says "no, more metal like." I cringe inside knowing exactly what I'm going to find on the dipstick...nothing, it's bone dry. I pulled the oil fill cap off and something fall into the motor. Not a liquid oil drip, more like a semi-solid sludge drip. I say to her "this is what killed the Nova (not the cool one ). Her van was 2.5 quarts low.

Sadly, it continues. I forget how we got to this part of the conversation, but she said something along the lines of "and the check engine light is on." I ask "for how long?" She responds "sometime last week." I sigh and say to her "you've become the stereotypical woman driver..." I guess I'll need to stop by more often for vehicle maintenance.

Was there any moisture build up in the light? Sometimes that will cause a bulb to burst.

Did some work on my buddies 2.5 rs that he gave to his little brother when he got his wrx.

He gave his brother the 2.5rs 6 months ago and its already had the motor replaced from him driving without oil.

They brought it over to my house yesterday cause it was making a weird noise.
I knew what it was the second he pulled in the drive way. He needs 4 rotors and pads.... badly.

Also he had three codes(that have been on for god knows how long), a knock sensor code, and two o2 sensor codes.

Oh yeah the oil pan was dry too

I'd like to thank all the morons out there that can't tell the difference between an oil cap and washer fluid reservoir cap, for keeping me in business, and for giving us material for this thread.

These are the same people who say they will never buy a _______ (brand name here) because they had one once and it blew up on them. If you maintain a car, it will be reliable. If you don't maintain a car, you get the point. At a shop I worked at in Seattle, we had a little old lady that brought her K car in about once every 4-6 weeks (Its a 80's dodge notorious POS for those of you who are young). Everytime, we would look it over and anything that was wrong, we would fix. Any fluid that was dirty, we would change. Most of the time, there was nothing wrong due to the frequency of her visits. Moral of the story is that this pos looked like it was brand new and had 300k miles on it. Most unreliable car ever (well, one of them) with that many miles? Preventative maintenance is exactly what it says. Pay some now, or more later. You make the call.

We had an old lady like that. She had some late 80s civic hatch that looked like it had just rolled of the lot.

We had a old timer that always came once a year. 1930s Ford. He bought it new. Every year he had it completely serviced. Stock stock stock. Drove it maybe 300 miles a year. He didn't care. Plugs, oil change, yadda yadda. We told him he didn't need it. He didn't care. He wanted it done. He even got it state inspected when we told him he was exempt. He said he didn't care. He wanted it done because it was the right thing to do. So we did it to keep him happy but only charged him for the sticker, not the inspection even though we did the inspection. Thing looked brand new. Never restored. Garage kept.

My mom's 2000 Accord just turned 41K miles. Last week she had her tires replaced. The original Michelins.

That's actually quite dangerous to run on tires more than 5 years. I had 60k on my trucks tires and they had over half the tread left.. but I bought new ones because they were almost 6 years old to the month. Didn't want to spend 1600 on new ones but its not good to gamble with that.

No. After 5 years you need new tires. The rubber starts to lose its oils and dries out. It will starts to crack and could cause a blow out or the tread will unravel.

And they make economy tires that last over 40k miles. The rubber is hard and you sacrifice a lot of grip.
