Default Die Another Day: Just die already!

Does anyone else feel the least bit of excitement about the new Bond movie? His plots are turning to ass and its all based on gadgets now. Is it time for Bond to die? I think they should move to a new actor (Clive Owen) and get good scrpits with lots of driving scenes. Anyone else feel this way?

"Do you expect me to talk?"

" No Mr. Bond, I expect you to die"

No they should continue Bond movies and only kill his role after his hot sister comes into the screen. Somene like Angelina Jolie would suffice. She can keep the Range Rover too as long as she doesn't put anymore cloth on.

Yeah, I kind of agree...

Back in the glory days (Connery) he was a *gasp* SECRET AGENT.

He'd infiltrate the enemy operation quietly in a tux while carrying a martini. He'd seduce some women and sneak around.

Now he's RAMBO. Goes in to every situation guns blazing. Bond's about as clandestine as a schoolbus full of nuns going 110 while on fire.

i feel exactly how you do. as a matter of fact, i think i said the exact same words to my roomate last week. but i will still see it. it's just one of those things. like the soprano's. the plots in this season are not stellar compared to previous seasons, but i still have to watch.

Wow, that is one of the most strange mental images I have had in a while.

Like XMAS, and everything else.

Bond can be resurrected with one good story.
Holidays are lost for ever in a poisonous cloud of alcohol fumes and commercials.

When I was younger, I loved the Ian Fleming books. What was appealing about James Bond has been completely lost from the modern version. The most powerful moment ever in a Bond book was possibly the bridge game with Hugo Drax. A bridge game for God's sake! Those books conveyed absolutely rivetting drama without needing exploding cars or helicopter chases.

James Bond is not supposed to be some Arnold Schwarzenegger crossed with a gymnast caricature. Pierce Brosnan couldn't carry James Bond's boxers.

I love Bond, and have read a bunch of the novels, but it's always been this way. Bond books were about espionage, Bond movies are about action. The tricked out Aston Marton with water-nozzle tailpipes, the grappling-hook watch, you name it, none of it exists in the books. The most advanced thing I ever saw the Q branch deliver in the novels was Bond's PP7.

Anyway, I agree though, that they're getting awfully action heavy. But, it's just the trend in modern movies. I'm hoping Bond gets back to his "roots" somewhere down the line, but if he ever does that film will be a flop!

You want cool cars? The original Bond drove a custom-bodied Bentley with an aftermarket supercharger! What goes around comes around.

Clancy? No way... not even close... Clancy does some cool stuff, but it wouldn't be a good fit for Bond.

What is your answer Mr. Connery?

V

Despite your best efforts, V is a roman numeral, therefore you are correct and won. What did you wager?

SUCK IT TREBEK!

William P. Kennedy (Toy Soldiers, The Himmler Equation) writes some good espionage books in my opinion. Though I don't read espionage books very often, his style of writing keeps me entertained.

wrong. the t-bird is halle's... bond has the aston martin vanquish v12. that car is utterly sick the t-bird is there just for commercial purposes, and the ford commercials imply that it is the bond car for the sake of advertising. i'm personally excited to see it. though, i heard pierce cannot drive a manual

Isn't the Vanquish's transmission clutchless?

"Transmission - The six speed close ratio manual transmission which is installed in the new V12 Vanquish is linked to the electronic drive-by-wire throttle and controlled through twin paddles mounted on the steering column. Developed exclusively for Aston Martin, the advanced paddle shift gear change incorporates electronics matched to hydraulics to facilitate instantaneous gear changes. Sophisticated electronics also permit the manual transmission to operate automatically with the additional facility of a programme for winter driving conditions which automatically reduces the power and torque of the engine."
