2011 Subaru STI stage 2 plus intake. Before/After intake test.
Dyno: Innovative Tuning's Mustang AWD 500 SE (not inflated)
Tuner: Mike McGinnis at Innovative Tuning Wheel HP: 281 Wheel TQ: 302 Ambient Temp: 40s Elevation: ~700 Highest baseline wheel HP when stock: 217 Highest baseline wheel TQ when stock: 226 Car Info Year: 2011 Engine Management: Cobb AccessTUNER Pro Turbo: stock Intercooler: stock Meth Kit: stock Injectors: DW 850cc Intake/Inlet: Cosworth air intake kit Headers: stock Uppipe: stock Downpipe: Invidia catted CBE: Borla Other Power Mods: walbro pump In this thread we baselined the car and performed some initial mods and tuning: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2099162 Today we added injectors, a fuel pump, and the Cosworth air intake kit. Happily the intake did exactly what we hoped it would, which was to increase horsepower in the mid range and especially on the top end. The peak WHP only went up 19, but as you can see in the following graph, the gain near redline was massive for such an inexpensive modification. I put boost on the graphs so you can see that the change isn't from simply cranking the boost up. The fuel mods got us back down to a safe maximum injector duty cycle, with room to grow for the future. I'm hitting at max of about 68-70% duty cycle now. Sport sharp pulls before/after today's mods: As usual I set sport sharp and sport up to do different things. Sport is a bit more conservative overall, less twitchy, and has a flatter torque curve. Here's the two settings after today's mods and retuning: And here's stock vs. today's final tune to show the overall progress: In terms of driving impressions...I'll leave that up to the car owner once he's had a chance to test out the changes. Great test. How were the ambient temps during the pulls?

Because this dyno reads lower than the one you were on.

Before/After without correction was: 265 whp / 302 wtq vs 289 whp / 310 wtq On some dynos the weather correction has a massive effect, but on the Mustang it seems to do a pretty good job of equalizing results even on turbo cars so I post graphs with weather correction. I know some people will say this makes no sense on a turbo car, but we've proven it to make readings taken one day vs. another on the same car more consistent. his_and_her_wrx what dyno was your car on? |

Did you happen to test it with the downpipe and tune, but before the header and uppipe? I'm curious how much they're helping with the stock cat back system in place. |

The owner basically made the same comment after seeing your thread. "So the header and up arent really doing anything?" Im guessing your full cbe and the header are "offsetting" each other. He's gonna get a full 3" soon.....i thought he said he was waiting for someone to come out with one.....but if your guy has one then someones making them Have you ever tried running the Hybrid EBCS + mbc on a SI Drive car? |

The intake/injectors really added quite a bit of power up top. I'm curious if this was all because of the intake, or maybe the injectors were topping out with the old tune? Either way it looks like a nice result. The tune you put on S mode looks good too. Very, very flat torque curve. Should be great for around town. I do wish my WRX had the capability to swap maps as easily as the STI's. Would be a very handy feature. Last edited by xluben; 01-04-2011 at 08:57 AM. |

It took some poking around, but we figured out that an 08-09 WRX Sedan cat back exhaust would fit the 2011 STI sedan. In this case it was a Borla cat back and keeping it 3" meant hacking the donut flange off it and welding a short pipe with 3" flange on it. I haven't used an MBC in conjunction with the stock boost control system on the SI drive cars. I've run them with stock control or with an MBC. I imagine you get a little quicker spool from the MBC and retain the ability to change boost levels in different SI drive modes? Quote:
Adding the intake is what provided the big increase in airflow, but without the fuel mods I wouldn't have been able to use it and generate this increase in power. I would have had to drastically reduce boost to keep airflow consistent with what the car was flowing before the intake install to keep the stock fuel system from maxing out. The SI Drive is a really nice feature. I've used it for all sorts of different things for different customers. Some people turn their car on and set the car to sport sharp every time they drive it so I just put the sport sharp mapping in the sport slot so they don't have to do this. Sometimes one is a drag setting and the others street settings or street, road, drag, etc. It's a pretty powerful feature. Quote:
217 to 281 is a 29-30% gain. I see more than 2% difference between totally stock cars so those results seem pretty similar. Without running both cars on the same dyno we can only guesstimate. |

So far I like it. The 30min drive home was fun. I didn't notice the turbo noise from the intake till I turned on sheridan. Then I accelerated to 45 quick and realized that I could hear the turbo.

very nice improvements! now can you do the same comparison tests for a 2011 wrx please, just so i can know how much $ to bring with me when i come down to see you...
on a side note a few people posting in these two threads need to understand that no two dynos will read the same. if shop x has a mustang dyno at 123 smith street and shop y has a mustang dyno at 124 smith street and both dyno the same car on the same day with the same mods both shops will get diifferent numbers now you add in different brand dyno's, different DA accross the country and those numbers can become extremely skewed |

One of our customers is awaiting delivery of a 2011 WRX and we've been discussing different exhaust options so we'll see how that one does when the time comes.
Bone stock the 09+ WRXs are putting out more power than any stock Subaru we've tested. I have a nice 07 STI on the dyno at the moment making similar power to this 2011 STI on pump gas, but the 07 has an EWG uppipe setup in addition to intake, exhaust, injectors, pump and I'm running more boost on it since I was asked to make the tune more aggressive on this car. I just started tuning it for meth injection and I'm expecting to pick up around 25 whp from that without touching the boost. We shall see. I'm curious to see if all the 2011 STI's make this much power on a setup like this or if this car is going to be above average. |

I'm real eager to see what a pro-tuned stage 1, 2011 WRX dyno graph looks like. I never messed with my stock 09 WRX turbo, went straight for broke nice job guys . . . |
