Default Anyone else's WRX not start on the first time occasionally?

Today I try to start my car, and on the first two times, it just won't turn over.

Seriously, I don't get it, am I the only one? Once every couple of months, when I try to start my car, it keeps on trying to turn over, but just wont start. It's wierd because it doesn't matter when I start the car, it's completely random.

Anyone else have this problem? It's been happening since I was stock. Only mods are an uppipe and downpipe.

Probably due to lack of fuel pressure. Get in the car, turn the key to the ON position, buckle up, then start your car. Due to govt. regs, all modern cars have to vent their fuel pressure back into the tank. When your car sits for awhile (varies between vehicles) you won't have any gas until the fuel pump charges the fuel system.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Uni: When I start my car, I turn the key to the "on" position for about 3 seconds (or until I stop hearing the buzzing noise). Is this long enough, or should I give it maybe 10 seconds?

What range spark plugs are you running. It could be due to the cooler weather we are having. I run one step colder plugs and my car is garaged every night. I've never had a problem starting it, but this morning it was pretty cold and for the first couple seconds it was rough until it got up to a decent temp.

Colder plugs will make the problem worse, not better. But otherwise yes, seems to happen to everyone now and again.

Same here ... Usually when I'm leaving work and the car has sat there for 8hrs ... I'll have to try the "prime the fuel lines" trick you guys are mentioning ... It's happend about 3 times to me so far, car only has 5k on it ... Go figure ...

My car does it also every now and then, will jump in and it takes maybe 5-8 secs to start..and I usally stop trying and then it fires up. Almost like you want to pump the gas to get her firing..very strange.

Mine did that once or twice, make sure you have the clutch in before you turn the ingnition to the 'ready' position, i think that is the only reason mine seemed to do it if it started to turn the key before the clutch was fully depressed.

I think in most cases it is the battery. It is a very weak unit.

leaving the key in the on position first for a few seconds usually did the trick. But yea, i would think the battery needs to be replaced with one that has more CCA's for those who live in the colder climates.

Optima battery is your friend. You can even use them when the car is off with no problem!! way better than stock.

mine does it too.... I don't think it is related to the stock battery or BOV's either...
What I do now is to prime the fuel system a few times before i go to start, but then, once every few months, the car will turn over but no start.

Even after getting a new battery with over double the CCA of stock, i have still had the car fail to start on the first attempt.

The advantage of having a better battery on the car is that on cold mornings when the car pulls off this stunt, the battery has enough grunt to spin the engine over again to attempt to restart. With the stock battery in winter, if the car failed to start the first time, you may be screwed, since it can barely muster another attempt...
