Default 2006 2.5i exhaust

So, I've been thinking about getting some sort of exhaust for my 2.5i. However I don't have too much money. I want it to be a little louder, just not crazy loud. I have found a catback sti exhaust that I can get for $100, I was also thinking about a straight pipe. Anybody else have any ideas? I just want to get the best sound possible without sounding super ricer.

i put a 05 wrx catback on my, i had the chamber in the midpipe deleted and a straight pipe wield in and it added a little bit more noise level to the exhaust. getting the pipe wield cost about 40$ and the catback was free so for the money i was happy

I've installed an 04 WRX STI axle back and eliminated the resornator the end results was good, had some what of a deepish rumble to it.

A STI axle back will give you more growl without being too obnoxiously loud. I've got a WRX axleback on mine and while it did a lot to improve the looks it didn't do squat for the sound. I'm thinking about having a local shop lop the muffler off and install a universal magnaflow muffler with dual tips.

I've got an '04 STI axleback on mine. Its got growl without being too loud for me. Its all relative though-"loud" and "sound" are different for everyone. Your best bet is to find a few other NA cars with exhausts and take a listen both inside and outside the car if you can.

Let me know when you figure out how to mount a TBE on a NA car.

OK OK OK... I went over your head.

You can't mount a turboback exhaust on our cars because we don't have a turbo. The front portion of the exhaust is completely different.

What you can use is the axleback section... which will bolt right up. It will look lots better, but the sound won't change any. I have a WRX axleback on mine.

Getting the TBE is fine... but you are only going to be able to use the last section of it (what the muffler is attached to).

You don't want to use the whole thing. It requires cutting and rotating the flange and a bunch of other crap. You aren't going to see any significant gains swapping to a WRX cat-back and the sound won't change. It's just for looks.

Getting the axle back alone and taking it in to midday for installation.

Thanks for all the input. So will I just be able to bolt the axle back on or will I need to do any other modifications?

2 bolts and a new gasket... the axle-back is a simple install.

A good exhaust shop should have gaskets... you can also try an auto parts store or the dealer. I got mine from the dealer... went to an auto parts store first and the guy behind the counter looked at me like I was from Mars.

I took my axle back to the dealer and set it on the parts counter... pointed to the flange that bolts to the rest of the exhaust and said "I need the gasket and bolts for that."

Sometimes you just have to physically show the parts guy what you need.

Keep the STI exhaust if equiped and fab an electronic cut-off valve and you will have the best of both worlds. Stock on normal days, and the rumble when you pull of to a ricer.................
