Question burning oil smell after oil change?

I have been taking my car to a independent shop to do my oil changes and it seems like they allow some oil around the filter to leak on the manafold and it stinks for a little while after. I haven't done it myself or taken it to the dealer for a change, does this happen to any of you?

All I know is that when I first changed the oil and removed my oil filter a lot of oil got caught up on the black plastic "skid plate" towards the front of the car. It was a PITA to get all of the oil out and it did leave a burning smell for a few days later.

I changed my oil just this past weekend. The Futumo valve was a saviour. Not one drip! On the suggestion of a couple of club members, I used an awe to poke two holes into the bottom of my oil filter. Let most (I stress "most" as there was more oil in the filter) oil drain out. Put my finger over the two holes gave the oil filter one full rotation removed my finger and sure enough more oil. Let that finally drain down, slipped a plastic bag over the filter and removed it. Two small drops of oil at the most.

No fuss, no muss, no burning!

I suggest that everyone change their own oil. It's cheap and easy to do... even for me... a mechanical idiot.

I rarely get oil onto the manifold when I remove my oil filter. If oil happens to get onto the manifold, then I just spray the affected area with some cleaner and wipe it clean before I drive off.

Thanks for the info! I'll ask the guys who do mine to be more careful. If I had a place to do it myself, I'd prob. get the valve thinghy and take good care to not spill. Oh well.
