All the blue is less than ideal for visibility, but I'm sure you already know that...or will soon find out.

Or just do away with the HIDs. Halogens win unless the reflectors are actually intended for HID bulbs.

less than ideal ,,, fail You lose the internet.,,,looks horrible,,,not even aimed right
funny reading over all every one has said so far. Guess no one likes HiD, but I did not install them for you, i did it for me and as far as them being to blue,, thats really just in the pic, they dont look that blue on the road, like i said they are 8000k, I was thinking of going 6000k, but i like a little bit of blue. and with 6 lights,, I can see very well, and yes they are aimed right for what i need, i have the 2 centers straight for right in front and the 2 out side ones are turned to the side to see around corners, (please keep in mind that they are only for off road or on back roads)

Its a very sad thing when all people do is talk crap, I just posted it because i did not see any hid lights bars on here, its not like i really care what anyone thinks, I just thought some of you mite like to see what it would look like. Funny it sounds like in on a Honda forum and not a Subie forum the way you guys talk. Well thats fine, have fun bashing my style guys.

It's a NAZIOC thing. Not all Subaru forums are this way. Some of the smaller tight knit sites are much better.

There is also a reason why "NAZIOC" auto filters to "NASIOC"

Actually.. while the replies on this BBS are often critical you'll find that the dissidence usually has a solid foundation in physics and maths. Compared to the generic "Honda forum" you're alluding to where the majority of negative replies are dominated by personal attacks without a foundation in science. I'd like to think we spell better here as well.

I suspect you can find some heavy reading in this very thread to educate yourself about what williaty is referring to. In fact you'll probably find that he is the author of some very detailed posts on the subject. Or you can continue solving your lighting problems with style instead of science.

I'd like to point out that you're comparing an internet forum to the Nazi regime which tortured and murdered at least 15 million human beings. There exists no emoticon powerful enough to convey how sick you make me.

Back to light bars!

No i did not make a bar, BUT i would have if i my bumper was in better shape. my bumper is cracked in one spot and where the stock lights go they have been cut out. At one time it had a FMIC installed. So all that in mind i just drilled some holes in it. A word to the wise, if you do drill into your bumper, dont make the make the holes to far back (to the hood) fill up in you bumper and you will fill a space and farther back you will fill a boxed in peace of metal that would be hard to deal with. Really a light bar would be the best. the 2 centers ones bounce just a very little bit but im talking just a little.

Now on to what i would like to tell anyone who is going to us hid. DO NOT CUT THE WIRES!!!!! if you need to make the longer just buy a HiD Extension Cable Wire Harness. they dont cost to much and you can find them on ebay. I rewired this 4 yes 4 times before i got it through my head that ITS NOT THE THICKNESS OF THE WIRE, ITS THE SHIELDING THAT MATERS. i used 12 gauge wire before i found that out and i was having a problem with the lights firing up. sometimes only 3 would fire and some times none would at all, i would hear a cracking sound coming from the wires them selfs and im very glad i did not burn down my car lol. If you look at even the plugs of the hid you will see that they are not together but each wire going to the light has its own plug. This is high voltage so please keep all this in mind.

If i had to do it all over again (which i will on my next subie) i mite think about putting all the ballast under the glove box.

Next i would us a light bar that is able to come off ez like with pins, i have some ideas.

As far as color of the lights, i have always liked the 8000k i would never go more blue. It its not hard to understand why blue is not the very most best kind of light but like i said I LIKE IT, and I think it go's well with the world rally blue. My Unk just got some 3000k and some 5000k so we are going to put them on his blazer and I will get a chance to see the 3 colors at once side by side.

I would also think about looking for other light housings, mine are spot lights, and when you have 4 and the 2 head lights are fine but a little more wider beam mite be better, keeping in mind they they will be used off road on dark windy road, but like i said before, you dont miss anything with mine.

All and all the build cost me about 230 bucks for every thing and i had alot of fun and its not somthing that every one has. So thats my story hope it helps some one. and thanks for the good feed back for a change.

EZ to pick my kid out

I LOVE HOW NONE LOOK THE SAME!

HIDs, regardless of color temperature, are discontinuous emitters. This is a bad thing for visual acuity.

HIDs of high color temperatures, more than 5k or so (though even the 3k HIDs have A LOT of blue in them due to the discontinuous emission spectrum), emit a staggering amount of blue light. The human eye cannot bring blue light into focus at the same time as warmer colors of light. This is bad for visual acuity.

You're behind the curve on a pinned bar. This one has been mine since last year. The first one from this vendor was made several years ago.

im sure you right, but as for me when i switched my head lights over to hids i the really seemed a lot brighter and i could see down the road more clear but hey thats just me.

about the clip bar,, i was thinking some where have a pipe that your bar would slide into that would not be seen when your bar is not installed all depending on the shape of the bar and where it is you mite go 2 slide in pipes or 4. but both bar and pipe would have a place for the pin to slide into.

What were your thoughts on how to build that? love your car by the way

What you describe is basically exactly how the Jackson Rally bar I have is done.

There's a receiver that mounts to the chassis where the bumper beam is bolted in. The receiver is directly under the bumper beam with just enough room above it to wiggle the bumper skin in. The receiver stops just before the edge of the bumper so it's effectively invisible when the bar is removed. The bar slides into the receiver and is made fast with two quick-release pins. The lights are wired on quick-disconnect fittings. Whole thing comes off in 10 seconds and goes back on in 30.

Um... Both?

I'm working with a Subaru vendor to design a new skidplate. That's one of the early prototypes. I've since sent back a list of alterations that have to be made.

It's the only skidplate on the market, well, soon to be on the market, that'll clear aftermarket headers without reducing the ground clearance below the level set by the stock subframe.

I want a bar like this, but I'd like the lamps to be located slightly higher than this location.

Yeah, I'd have preferred higher myself, but this is where it was able to be done with big strength and convenience.

Kyle was working on a modified version of it that'll work for many different light loadouts rather than just 4 big Hellas. I don't know if he's started production yet or not.
