Default MAIC Discussion of 2008 Impreza (Live pics from the NYIAS start post #200)

Alright, I hate to start a new thread for this, but trying to go through posts in News & Rumors is like trying to have a political debate at a daycare center. As far as I can tell, this is legit. So, MAIC, what does everyone think?

I for one am reserving as much judgement as I can until NYAS. The styling just not do it for me at all... nervous about the sedan

Some things utterly shock me:

- the plastic manifold
- even more pathetic (smaller than a Legacy GT?) intercooler
- downgrading back to 2-pot calipers in the front (entire brake system should've gotten better)
- the interior is just not working for me.
- exterior antenna?! looks beyond tacky...
- clear tailights?! What is this, 1998?

I'm inclined to have this line of thought, though: it's a magazine. They had to have gotten these pictures a good amount of time ago to work them into the issue. Maybe things will be different come NYAS.

The rest looks fine, but the front end makes it look like the new chrysler sebring. Although I hate hatchbacks, but that's just me.

The IC may be smaller because the scoop is more in the wind flow now and thus airflow is higher over the the IC versus previous body style?

This thread will be stomped in 3 ....2 ....1 ??

If that's what they seriously are planning, then the aftermarket has their work cut out for them.

What if I want to upgrade the turbo? I need to buy a newer designed TMIC or FMIC b/c it doesn't look like older designs will fit.

it looks like a camry and a mazda3 were genetically fused, and certainly not in a good way. performance aside, i fell for imprezas because of their odd, exaggerated styling. this looks too toned down for my liking. the downgrades in performance, if they're true, are a bit.... shocking?

There was talk about that being the same TMIC that's in the current LGT. I don't know how much aftermarket exists for that right now.

I really really want an '07 TR now.

Jeez, I really hope that is not the official 08'...IMO, it looks hideous....and the engine, it looks like they've downgraded everything , it all looks plastic. Judging from that picture, I wouldn't be surprised if the engine itself was made of plastic.

I want an 07' now too...

Your right ed, the aftermarket has its work cut out for them.

I thought they were kidding when they came out with the frog-eyed WRXs. Nah, they wouldn't actually try to sell a car that looks that dumb, would they? They would.

Then they came out with the big bulbous front end cars, with all the tack-on plastic bits and I thought, "This is just as bad - but different."

Then the inverted Alfa Romeo "propeller" nose. That HAD to be a joke. Nope, they built that monstrosity.

This is just the next stage in the evolution of Subaru's joke on the American public. Their goal is to out-ugly BMW. Well done. :ack:

Hmmm ... interior looks nice. The rear looks like a Lexus RX. I'm not a fan at all.

I thought "bmw" also. It has A LOT of the Chris Bangle sharply creased 3-series and 1-series design in it. But overall it's got some Mazda 3/Ford Focus look about it.

I could past all that, but why would they go from a sedan to a wagon when only 1 in 5 WRX's sold is a wagon ?

and on second thought, they have a ways to go before they " out ugly" BMW
