Finally had time to bake and black my headlights! I also debadged the front grill since the bumper was already taken off during the project.

Just picked up a turboback from Nameless Performance today.
This completes the rest of the parts I was waiting for. Now to find the time to install it. Beautiful pieces! Great guys! Thanks! |

I know, I know
I tried (and failed) putting on carbon fiber wrap on my roof.... one wrinkle can ruin the whole project.

You simply can't do it by yourself. It took my dad and I forever and the corners still aren't great after forcing everywhere else to work. |

Tip from someone who used to tint. Spray the sticky side with water generously, and the surface too (after being cleaned). Apply wet. Line up the wrap. It should be pretty easy to move because the water is temporarily preventing the adhesive to stick. After you have it lined up and made sure its where you want it, use a squegee and slowly start smoothing out the vinyl. The water will start to come out. You may need to guide some of the bubbles out. If there isnt a protective cover on the top of the vinyl, you may want to use some of the vinyl backing paper you peeled away while doing this, depending on the type of vinyl you used to add additional protection but if you use a pretty soft squeegee it shouldn't make a different, but better safe than sorry.

Friend of mine mentioned using a light mixture of soap with said water. if on a hot day the sun causes the water to evap faster.
I failed horribly at this too. dried too fast and i was by myself. |

There are certain instances where using a wet application method works, and there are others where it is one of the worst ideas you could do. Wrap vinyl (3m 1080, Avery Supreme wrapping film, Oracal) all have 2 distinct technologies that water does not work well with. The 1st is air egress tech. This is micro air channels in the adhesive that allow air to escape as you are squeegeeing the vinyl down. This helps prevent bubbles and wrinkles. The 2nd is a repositionable tech. What this does is it keeps adhesive elevated above the surface, preventing full tack / adhesion. Every manufacturer does it slightly different, but its usually microscopic beads. This allows you to pick up and move/slide/work the vinyl on the surface. When you squeegee, the microscopic beads are pressed into the adhesive, and this starts the adhesives final bonding process. You can recognize air egress technology by looking at the backing paper (wax paper) of your vinyl. If you can tell any sort of texture, it is an air egress film. When doing a wet install with a film designed with air egress technology, it actually will TRAP the water in the tiny air channels in the adhesive. Worse than that, water will prevent the microbeads from pressing into the adhesive. So, even after the water evaporates out (as long as a couple of weeks), the adhesive in those locations will not have a bond with your surface. Which basically means your wrap will not be held on by more than a few places, and will fail far quicker. That is, if you can even get it to stick at all. Wrap vinyl (especially the carbon and chromes) is expensive... Don't waste money and time. Avoid Water! If you're wrap vinyl doesn't have a textured backing paper, it probably isn't fully wrappable vinyl. This probably means you have some form of lesser vinyl meant for other applications (flat windows, plastic signs, etc...). While you can probably get it installed, its going to be a bad time. It will not stretch very much, the adhesive won't be as forgiving, and it will not have the same UV protection and will break down faster. |

Put on some gorilla mud flaps. Way better than previous rally armors I had in strength.

Did you have the UR's? If so, they are supposed to be 'weak' IE: very flexible in order to not break from impacts. Super stiff (strong..?) flaps can break easily when they hit the ground or have a large impact thrown from the tire. I know nothing about the gorilla flaps, so I'm not saying anything about them specifically. |

Installed an FXT engine cover today. Thanks to eugeneutopia. It makes the engine bay look so much cleaner in my opinion.

COBB Intake w/Air Box, Perrin Cat-Back, etc.
Just catching up... August-September 2013:
Installed the COBB SF Intake w/Air Box, Perrin Cat-Back Exhaust. Have COBB downpipe and stainless Heat Shield yet to install, and then AP flash to Stage 2. Sounds great, feels great. Road trip to Utah to swap a WRX owner his wingless trunk lid for my STI whale tail. We're both happy now. My wife says the STI looks like it's owned by a mature adult now.
