Default Intake: Suggestions?

I have recently installed a Greddy Type RZ valve on my WRX TR 2006 in a full recirculating way. I want to buy an air intake and I am not sure what brand is better for my car. I had before a golf 5 GTI and I went with the AFE. It was so good. So what are your suggestions?

I was thinking of the following options:

-SPT Cold air intake
-Cobb SF
-Injen Intake (the long one that ends in the fender)
-AFE

Future mods:
TBE (didnt make up my mind with which brand to go for)
Upgrading to bigger turbo (VF43 ...)
Ecutek Tuning.

I'm sure you are already aware, but installing an aftermarket intake without a tune, or MAF rescaling, is not recommended. After readling a lot, I actually just went back to a stock system, with the exception of the turbo inlet hose and my intake temperatures have decreased. I have not noticed any difference in power. My AFRs are more stable to boot. For the record, I did rescale my MAF because I was tuned with a short ram.

SPT can be run on stock tune....so that seems like your only logical choice.

Additionally the Cobb SF one claims to not need a tune either, although the Cobb stage 1 tune is recommended.

SPT isn't a cold air intake. Injen (the long pipe one) is a cold air, hence the filter sitting in the fender.

What do I suggest? None, they do nothing but add sound to the car. Waste of money.

Eh Right now I have a cobb with an AMSOIL filter because its like way larger and its a dry type. I prefer those. But honestly I am probably gonna switch to the beatrush short ram with the airbox.. Or the Apexi with the airbox.

I have had an AFE on my dub 1.8t And it was a great intake with a dry filter.. Cant really go wrong with the ones you listed..

Hinshaw is right. Unless you're pushing out way more ponies than stock, an intake is just noise. I would go for the tbe first, but if you're really set on the intake for the noise factor get the cobb sf intake. I'd get the airbox to go with it so it doesn't suck in heat from the engine, but just keep in mind the box will silence the intake sound somewhat.

OP. I have the AEM, with invidia q300 TBE, and cobb OTS stage 2. the intake makes a cool sound, and with my other mods does increase power. (albeit not massively.)

if you're gonna get an intake, atleast get the Cobb AP and go stage 1+. you wont regret it.
as far as which intake, the AEM is similar to the cobb, but sits in the wheel well. comes with a block off to keep heat out, and is hundreds cheaper. something to consider.

You have a 2012, he has a 2006. An intake on a 2006 will net 0 power gain. It will on your 2012 however.

I will go either Cobb AP or ECutek. Thanx for sharing ur experience and I like how the AEM sit in the box. Since it is inside the box, the sound is low?

supposed to get it just before the tuning but I had to take it earlier. the kit was difficult to install. High quality bov. I like it but no sound since it is installed as recirculating.

Jayman: thanks for pointing this out. an oversight on my part.

bov_rider: see above^
but to answer your question, no, it is not quiet. lol. if you want quiet, id stay with the stock airbox.
Idk about the '06 MY but maybe you can get a high flow drop in? i think this will still make more noise though.

What exactly is your goal in getting an intake since it makes no additional power?

also, y are you suppose to get a new bpv/bov before your tune? Who told you that? unless you a running a larger turbo there is again, 0 performance gain from your bpv as well. just a shiny part for under the hood bling.

Guise stahp. A new BPV adds +10hp when tuned for, another +10hp if you paint flames on it

+1 stock

if you want to spend a little, buy a k&n filter... call it a day

if you really want to blow money on it... i think the best bet would be the cobb sf (only w the airbox). anything that changes the maf tube needs to be carefully designed. they've shown the air to be cooler with their intake, but that is not really going to correlate the same way to power output.

spt i think is metal and if i recall correctly people complained of it getting burning hot.

Something tells me, you have a bov that was likely full atmos. or 50/50 at one point and you plan to get an intake and drive around for a long while and then get it tuned. This thread is full of confusion from your posting and your username doesn't help the cause.

the username was way back long and i couldnt change it.

yeah i admit i started the modds backward. I got the BOV now because I wanted one for the tune and where I live you cannot find those parts easily so I bought it since it is a stock instead of the turbosmart that had a defect.

VF48, tuning, TBE are coming soon

The intake is still pretty loud.

Don't go with ecutek. Either look into open source tuning or just get the accessport.
