Question Anyone ticketed for too loud exhaust?

Anyone received tickets for a too loud exhaust system? What kind of exhaust? How did the police determine that it's "too loud"? What did you have to do about this?

I was pulled over the other day in my '86 MR2 for having an "intolerable exhaust system". I just love the injustice of corrupt law enforcement. I just love how he brandished a portable decibel reader.

Thumbs down

it's at the 'discretion of the officer'
So what that means is, if he's in a bad mood the decibel threshold for 'intolerable' goes waay down

So do they sometimes pull you over, aim the sound meter at your exhaust and make you rev it a few times? BTW, these questions have nothing to do with my Scoobysport exhaust, hehe.

I was pulled once for scaring a copper with my waistgate chatter.

Came off the throttle when i was on full boost (26psi) and the chatter scared the poor guy to death, he pulled me, had a rant, i nodded profusely then went on my way... hehe

That's pretty funny!
"Besides this ticket I'm giving you, I want you to pay for fixing my sound meter when you pegged it - and pay my dry cleaning bill".

Pulled over one time and the cop tried to say that "you can't take a stock muffler cut a hole in the end and put two crome tips coming out of it"
I sell the stromungs and told him they were custom made for the impreza. So he said he couldn't tell what was factory and what was aftermarket so he let me go on the exhaust. In reality THE COP WAS A MORON

i got cited for that... but not in my Subie..
in my VW.. had a flowmaster....
funny thing is... the cop was in the middle of the intersection... i was across from her, facing her, making a right hand turn.

she flipped a U turn before she could even see my exhaust!!! pulls me over and cites it for me...
got that sooo thrown out - they wrote the citation off....

a lot of cops in CA carry decibel meters now... so it's harder to get out of the tickets now...

Over here the tichet for exhausts is $200. and if you piss of the cop, he can give you one for modification to silencer system which is another $200. (even if you just have a tip)

In Jan. the new trafic law here goes into efect which lowers the second one to just $50. but don't know about the first.

Also, till Jan. in the current law, speed tickets are $15 (no matter the speed ) but it's dead in Jan.

Not yet for me... but I worry about it. I always drop out of gear and coast by cops if I can. If not then I just down shift so that I'm loping around at 2k and trying to be really quiet.

Of course, if they clearly can't get me (like the are turning left and I am going straigt and there is a lot of traffic) the I upshift and blast by them really loud-like!

I got pulled over by a cop...Didn't have my license or proof of insurance with me (i dont know where the insurance went and i had just lost my wallet which had my license), long story short the cop let me off with a warning saying, change the exhaust when i come back here or ill get you for it next time.... My friend and I did a dB rating of it in the outside form 20"s from the exhaust (thats what I thought you were supposed to do it at...ive heard other lengths as well...)....the dB rating? oh...just 127.2dB dBA was at 124.7

How did he determine it was too loud? Well I guess it would be that I was almost a mile away and he could still hear me
