Whats the diff? UK spec STi wheels vs. JDM spec STi wheels
Ok, after multiple searches with no good info I've gotta ask: What's the difference between the UK spec STi wheels and JDM spec STi wheels?
The evidence: On vividracing.com, I can get a set of four UK spec wheels (17.5 lbs each) for $1250. http://www.vividracing.com/prod_wheeloemuk.php But if you go to the STi section, the JDM spec wheels are 18lbs and $380 a piece ($1520 for four) http://www.vividracing.com/prod_wheeljdm.php Both wheels also seem to be a slightly different gold color. Anybody have more accurate specs? I'm planning to call Vivid tomorrow, but just thought I'd ask since I'm online now.

the ones listed as "uk" aren't the ones that come on the sti with the gold brembo brakes. the "jdm" wheels are less common, have better brake clearance, and i think a lower offset.

The STi and UK OEM wheels are different, although they look similar.
Four Star is selling a set of STi wheels (rally car take-offs) for $1400 USD, with Potenza's (REO11 I think, what ever comes from Subaru in the UK). Its cheaper than Vivid, and it includes tires. Had this deal been around when I got my wheels, I'd have jumped on it. -Pete |

Both UK and JDM STi's have the same wheels (17x7.5 +53mm)and tires (bridgestone RE040).
Only the wagon STi's have the 17x7 +53mm golds and the UK and JDM WRX's comes with the same wheels in silver. Please correct me if I'm wrong.... |

That is an excellent deal .....
for STi wheels and tires. I personally dont think the two wheels look much alike. The 17x7 looks like an extended US WRX wheel, the 17x7.5(in the link above) has a flared split spoke design. I would definitely get the 17x7.5s. I think if you run a 215/45 17 you should be ok.
subysouth edit: 225/45-17 is the stock tire on those wheels, and you might get some rubbing with that size. Last edited by subysouth; 09-10-2002 at 06:13 PM. |

Just a side
I think the standard JDM WRX comes with 16x7" USDM 98-99 RS 5spoke wheel.
subysouth That UK WRX wheel comes on JDM B4s and GT-Bs(its painted a darker silver.) Go figure. edit: I think the 17x7 has a +55 offset as well. The 17x7.5 is +53 tho. Last edited by subysouth; 09-10-2002 at 04:14 PM. |

froggert
some of the older STis did use the Subaru 4/2 pot STi brake setup.
The current STis, IIRC, excluding the 16" version type RA, use the big Brembo brake kits. The 16" version type RA IIRC, comes with 2pot fronts and 1pot rears like the USDM WRX and a set of gray 16" steel wheels. subysouth |
