Hey Rifts WRX-Auto Tranny- auto shift vs manual
I'm planning a baseline performance test day at the local drag strip and I'm trying to figure out if manually shifting a subaru auto will result in better 1/4 times or should I just let the tranny shift on its own.
My tranny seems to shift at around 7,200 under full throttle (2-3 shift) which is not quite redline. I know I can test both techniques ( if I have enough runs) but I'm hoping someone has done this before. My experience with TH350 and C-4/C-6 trannies is that manually shifting results in better performance (and also coordinating shift RPM, torque curve and modulator valve selection). So what's the collective's opinion? Wm

You know... I've had plenty of people ask me that question, and have contemplated trying it out the next time I head up to the track.
If I remember right, based on "how fast" the gas pedal is pressed the computer goes into a "power mode" what exactly happens here is beyond me. But if it's like other cars I've driving it would handle fuel, timing, shift points etc. I mean... a 7000 RPM shift is still good. Nonetheless... try it. Since I'm not heading up to the track until my Venturi pipe and Turbo back are on the car. Let us know, Jorge (RiftsWRX) www.ProjectWRX.com |
