Default The Official 2014 Tail of the Dragon Boxer Takeover Thread 4/25-26/2014

Its time again to get ready for the Boxer Takeover. We had a great event last year and are looking to make it bigger and better this year.

This event is for enthusiasts and planned by enthusiasts. We organize this every year to give our fellow boxer brothers a place to meet and share our passion for our cars and driving. This event will be held in honor of CJ, our fellow Nasioc brother who lost the fight to cancer in October of 2013 and the proceeds of the raffle will be donated for the care of his 6 year old son. We feel the Boxer Takeover is a great way to support his family and what better reason could there be to bring together Subaru owners and great vendors on these amazing roads to have fun and raffle off fantastic parts for our cars?

For those of you that don't know, the Tail of the Dragon is an amazing section of US Highway 129 containing 318 turns over 11 miles (Points B to C in the picture below)

Lodging Info

The best way to stay out in this area is by renting a cabin. Fire up your favorite search engine and search for "cabins for rent in" and:

Smokey Mountains
Robbinsville
Maryville
Gatlinburg
Bryson City
Fontana Lake

or just take a look around the area and find something suitable (zoom out). VRBO is a good resource too. Cabins are generally available for days to weeks at a time...each one has their own rules. With a bit of work and a few calls you can get really good deals on nice cabins, fully stocked with everything except food.

Tampa Group Information

For everyone who wants to join our caravan, we will be meeting on April 23, 2014 at 5am, at the Hess Express on 28232 Wesley Chapel Blvd (Just North of Tampa). Exit 279 (CR 54) on Highway 75 at 5am on April 23, 2014. Please arrive on time fueled up or early and fuel up there. Here is the itinerary

It's looking promising! I should be on coils by then and some other goodies as well.

All parts are in. Tuning tomorrow though. EL headers should give me a good bump

I'm sure Anthony will get you some great numbers. It may read low since the Dynojet he uses has belt linked drums instead of the standard independent rolling drums, he said it reads about 5% lower than others. But either way you will possibly make close to or at what my car made. Makes me wonder what the point of an STI is sometimes, but I wouldn't give her up for anything. I wish we could still have done our caravan there last week.

Not able to go in this month this year but I will be up there in mid march for a week. Hope you all have a great time (as I know you all will). Please drive safe, drive smart, and most of all have a blast. We Subaru owners "Do It On All Four". Hope to see everyone soon.Brian Case, I will miss you this year, you are a great guy. If anyone is up to it, maybe we could meet up with you when we are there in March, cause I know alot of you live close by. There will be about 10 of us going up then. If not, I truly understand.

Plus, drive it to the extent of your ability. Or just cruise. Who cares. We're all there to have fun. Noone's gonna get upset. If you want to be nice, pull off and let a few clumps of people go through. I guarantee those that want to go fast(er) are going to get in front anyways or wait to increase the buffer in between them and the people ahead of them.

Also, I'm most likely going to be bringing tons of spare parts...just in case. A few things I got for free and are sitting on my shelves for that just in case moment (ie oil pump, water pump, sti pads f&r, oil plug, etc). I may even end up bringing my garage jack and keep it at where we're staying. I have a tendency to hit/run over things...and anyone is more than welcome to use my stuff, pending competency.

DRAGON!
If I get to go, remind me to not be in front of you.
