It can also be a timing issue. The second I turn the ignition key to on I am hitting the second flash prompt from Ecuflash.

Try EcuFlash 1.29a. It may be too old to be deemed "authentic" with the newer versions. I think the 1.3u and the 2.0 are the only cables that work with the newer versions.

Well guys,

I have seemingly tried it all...uninstalled 1.42, installed 1.29

I have tried 1.30...

Just this stuff just not work on 02 wrx? I have read alot of these post, funny enough, after I decided to go this route, and not just have cobb, or road race do what I needed...man do I feel like an a

Sorry guys, burst of frustration...
I have researched this alot and find these same "denso02_bootloader_cmd error posts", but yet have I found an exact answer, so I will itemize what I have tried based on a few seperate posts, and what in my case has not worked.

1. 02 wrx w/ tactrix cable...its 2005 version
2. have tried 2 seperate computers
3. tried ecuflash v1.42, v1.30, v1.29a
4. tried all different usb ports on both computers
5. double, triple checked blue dongle / reflash connector
6. double checked green test connectors

To date, I still get denso02_bootloader_cmd error

And you can't verify that your ECU hasn't been "touched" with Cobb AP or EcuTEK? I'm in the same boat - no signs suggesting that it was tuned with EcuTEK (JDM STi Ver8 ECU) but getting the same error. However, my test mode connector, while it is wired, doesn't bring on test mode and still couldn't find the test mode connect on the passenger side

A 1.3S cable works fine on my 02. Absolutely clean connect. The one time I had issues, the green test connectors were not seated well. Verified this by noting no test cycle. I always let the fans cycle now to verify good connections. No idea how picky the timing to key on is, but it has yet to miss as I do it in less than 1 second.

A screenshot from before shows ECUFlash did not see the cable, otherwise is would show in the lower right. You are p**ing upwind until you get that fixed. Either bad driver setup, or bad cable.

02s are the trickiest......if your cables are good then your timing is off. As soon as you turn on the key....hit the connect prompt. At the exact same time. My 04 STi only works with key on...count to one...click the mouse..done. a full second difference. We went through everything and were just turning the key a sec before we prompted it to read lol

On my 03wrx , the same as 02 for flashing, if I turn the key and hit the start button at the same time, it DOES NOT work. I have to hit the start button and wait for around 1/2 sec to a full sec before turning the key on for it to work.
