Ok, so I got the beta version of EcuFlash and it seemed to fix the driver issue. Now when I try to read my ecu I get an error window saying " An error occured, see logs for details". I also cannot find my year or model under Vehicle Type tab. Can this have something to do with it? I downloaded the correct definitions and I just can't seem to figure out what else I am missing.

What do you mean you downloaded the correct definitions? Unless you have an almost brand new vehicle, EcuFlash probably had the definition you needed. The version you installed had over 700 definitions, and you now have almost 200 less:

[13:15:16.346] 558 ROM metadata models scanned.

Unless you do a read and the ROM image from you read comes up as 'unknown ROM image' don't worry about updating definitions. For the vast majority of people, EcuFlash will have the definition they need without any need to update metadata files.

What vehicle (year/model) do you have? That gives us the info you need to help clarify what your selection should be in the vehicle type.

So, I finally got it to work. Turns out that I had the wrong vehicle chosen (I'm an idiot). I kept looking for 2007+ USDM and could never find it, then I read something on a site (forgot which one) that 2007+ CAN would cover my car. Anyways, I chose that and it worked.

Glad your problem is solved. Definitions will never solve the problem of reading a car unless:

1) You've totally pointed your rommetadata directory setting to a different directory that doesn't contain the 'read templates', which would be here in a default installation:

C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenECU\EcuFlash\rommetadata\read templates

Those templates are what EcuFlash uses to populate the drop down menu of vehicle choices.

2) or if you're vehicle is a totally new type of ECU like the BRZ ECU or the new 2015 WRX which are both departures from the Denso ECUs used by Subaru for a while now.

We're planning on adding more choices to the read drop down menu so that it's clearer what read template should be used for a particular car.

So, I was able to flash a ROM yesterday and today I received a updated ROM from my tuner and EcuFlash won't let me open it. I keep getting an error saying "EcuFlash could not recognize this ROM image using any of the current definitions" it the gives me two options to abort or to use wizard to create a definition. Can anybody shed some light and help a brother out.

If you were able to open the ROM yesterday but now after your tuner modified it, you are no longer able to open it, then it sounds like the tuner changed the ROM ID, which doesn't make a lot of sense. Have you tried asking your tuner why you can no longer open the ROM in the same version of EcuFlash?

It was a download issue. For some reason the file didn't download correctly. It's funny because instead of just trying to download it again and I went on a crusade on trying to figure what the problem was. You win some, you loose some.

For the record, the beta version mentioned in this old thread no longer exists. All of that code was long ago included as part of our regular EcuFlash release. So if you have a current version of EcuFlash downloaded from our site, you have the changes addressed by the beta being discussed in this old thread. I wanted to clarify because in the past week I've had a couple of people ask me about obtaining the beta version mentioned here.

Bumping an old thread to hopefully help someone else, as this is still relevant whenever you search Google for this issue... I was having a very similar issue, and continually got the "interface close" message before any communication happened between the ECU and my laptop via a Tactrix 2.0 cable. Within the vehicle definitions in ECUFlash for my 2007 FXT, I had selected Subaru ALL DBW FXT/OBXT/LGT/Baja for 2007+, and it wouldn't work, but thanks to this post, I tried Subaru ALL CAN Vehicles 2007+ and BOOM! worked perfectly. And in the bottom corner of ECUFlash it displays 07/08 Subaru USDM Forester XT. So, even though my car is not using a CANbus computer, this selection made it compatible. Hopefully this helps someone else!! Cheers
