[Resolved] New Laptop. RR and driver issues?
Man....you'd think after messing with this stuff this long I'd have it figured out.
Nope! Any way, got a new(ish)laptop. Old one motherboard died and wasn't worth fixing. Reinstalled RR and Ecuflash. 2 problems 1) When I plug in the cable (Tactrix V1 Openport 1.3) It searches for drivers and untimately says "Device Driver was not Successfully Installed" "USB Serial Port -- Failed" 2) When I open the logger, it still says "missing cars definition file" and asks if I want to install now. I've DL'd the ECU defs from RR, unzipped and placed on my desktop where I directed the file manager to look for them. Not sure if the 2 things are related, but I'm almost certain they are a user issue.

I thought the driver was in ecuflash for communicating with the tactrix. Did you install ecuflash version 1.44? http://www.tactrix.com/index.php?opt...d=36&Itemid=58

I bet the driver doesn't work with the 1.3 cable would be my guess. I would contact Tactrix.
Changes since 1.44.3719 version: EcuFlash IMPORTANT - the OP2 now uses a custom driver I wrote for better speed and stability than the Microsoft usbser.sys driver. This allows for reduced latency and a cleaner installation as well. *** This means that initially you must do a full EcuFlash and J2534 / driver install so that all of these components will work together. OLDER ECUFLASH AND OP20PT32.DLL VERSIONS WILL NOT WORK WITH THE DRIVER. ** |

Hmmmm. I wonder if that's the case. I just uninstalled and then reinstalled ECU Flash. When I plug the cable in, it goes through the process of installing drivers successfully, then it says the serial port driver fails.
I wonder if I can DL an older version of Ecuflash? |

I emailed tactrix and was corresponding with a guy named Michael. Not sure if it was the same guy. No luck yet.
I'll PM Mike. |

Why not just pull the older version off the old computers hard drive? Or just Google search Ecuflash 1.42 and see if it's hosted somewhere.

I found ecuflash 1.42 over on the openecu site, loaded it and got the same result.
Admittedly, I'm not a computer guru. Is it possible the laptop is to blame? Any other things I should check? Can I manually install the drivers? If so, how do I do that? Last edited by Brock31; 12-30-2014 at 04:05 PM. |

Older versions:
http://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ecu...-ecuflash.html direct link: http://evoecu.logic.net/mirror/ecuflash/releases/ Sorry I can't tell you which version to use or whether or not your issue is related to the newer versions and your 1.3 cable. |

From a romraider post 1.42 should work but you will need to install driver manually:
Load the driver manually. Pretty much what 75% of the people have to do. Even with XP I have had to do this. The cable does not have to be connected to the OBD II port. When you plug in the cable and it says "new device" and asks you if you want to automatically find drivers or manually, pick manually. Hit browse and then go to the driver location in the Ecuflash program files and select it. http://www.romraider.com/forum/viewt...hp?f=15&t=5968 |

Hey, you've been a great help. I'm going to try a couple of the older versions and see what happens.

Fixed it!
Had to manually install the driver. For some reason there were 2 different drivers in the directory and it kept defaulting to the wrong one. RR logger works (at least connects), learning view and ecuflash works. Haven't flashed yet, but it connects to pull my ROM. I'll have to road test it tomorrow.
