[RESOLVED] ECU Flash read fail error
2002 USDM WRX - Stock everything.
I get the following error. Any ideas? I can read the ECU in my Evo X without any issues, plug in the tactrix 2.0 to the WRX and it fails. Version: 1.10.2658 [23:19:41.647] denso02_bootloader_cmd_start [23:19:41.948] readback fail [23:19:42.849] denso02_bootloader_cmd_start [23:19:43.159] readback fail [23:19:44.081] denso02_bootloader_cmd_start [23:19:44.411] readback fail [23:19:45.323] denso02_bootloader_cmd_start [23:19:45.643] readback fail [23:19:46.554] denso02_bootloader_cmd_start [23:19:46.875] readback fail [23:19:46.975] kernel get version [23:19:47.195] readback fail [23:19:47.305] interface close [23:19:47.325] interface close [23:20:04.470] J2534 API Version: 04.04 [23:20:04.470] J2534 DLL Version: 0.50.2345 Dec 2 2008 16:49:47 [23:20:04.470] Device Firmware Version: 1.10.2658 [23:20:08.616] denso02_bootloader_cmd_start [23:20:08.946] readback fail

Did you download the newest ECUFLASH and drivers from their website? If so, your cable will not work. As explained in the post below yours. and below that. and below that...................

He needs the beta version of EcuFlash which I've just sent him. There is a small change to the firmware used by the early WRX models. If anyone else has this issue, just send an email to support at tactrix dot com and we'll get you squared away. This change will be part of our official release shortly.

Thanks for the beta file MikeyPSF!
I updated ECU Flash to this beta version and successfully read the ECU ROM. Next I conducted a test write successfully. Finally I attempted to write to the ECU and it failed with a low voltage error. I will have to research this a bit, as this is the first time I've seen this error since I began using ECU Flash in 2007. History for those who may be experiencing similar problems. Initially I downloaded 1.44.4361 (latest) and installed. I attempted to read the ecu in multiple cars and got a "Connection error". After several hours of research on here, WRX Tuners, EvoM, DSM Tuners, etc... I tried to un-install/re-install ECU Flash several time with the same result. After more hours of research I determined ECU Flash does not like Windows 7. All the previous flashing I did with my old DSM H8 ECU was via Windows XP. So what I did was load Virtual Box onto a MacBook and ran a Windows XP iso thru Virtual Box. From all the research I noticed many issues with 1.44.4361 and found the older versions to be preferred as they load the J2534 drivers correctly. This is when I installed 1.37 to load the correct J2534 drivers, then installed 1.41. When I did this I was able to successfully read the ECU in my Evo X via OP 2.0. However I was not able to read the ECU in my 02 WRX. In order to read the ECU in my 02 WRX I obtained 1.44.4361b from MikeyPSF at Tactrix. I hope this helps. |

Hmmm....since you've been tuning this car a while I'm guessing you have the reflash adapter in place, but just in case, do you have the reflash adapter in place? On a 2002 that would be the typical cause for a low voltage error. If the adapter is in place, can you post up your full log trace from EcuFlash?

Actually this is my first time tuning a Subaru. I bought this car as a winter beater, and I have a CEL light from installing a catless exhaust. All I'm trying to do is disable the rear O2 to eliminate the CEL.
I'll verify the adapter after work. |

This is the adapter/jumper block. Plugs in up under the dash for flashing

Right, and it's located very close to the green test connectors under the driver's side dash. Here's a photo where you can see the female connection that the blue reflash adapter plugs in to. It's the white three pin connector just above the two green test mode connectors pointed to by the red arrows.

Got it.
I stuck a paper clip in there to jumper the white connector, but that doesn't mean it didn't fall out. I'll verify and report back. |

Used a bigger paper clip that can't fall out.
Reflash worked! Officially resolved. Thanks everyone. |

Sorry to necro bump this, but can someone tell me the color of the WIRES that are in the white block jumper? I'm working on a car that had the old jumper cut off the harness, so I need to know what wire(s) colors are in that white jumper.
