You can spend double for pretty much the same thing, and buy a technivorm, but you are only getting a fractional improvement for your money (and some things on the bonavita, like the shower head, are superior).

So buy it, just be sure you buy from some place you can warranty it easily, if you're concerned. Or look at the technivorm or Bunn.
Bought through amazon for the double coverage and 2 day shipping!

How are you heating the water?

Cool, sc00by! Keep me posted on how it goes.

Btw, I went over to friends past weekend, where I always brew espresso. He has an astra as well, and a preciso, which he managed to muck up. I forgot to bring my grinder, so I used his old whirly blade grinder. I actually managed to pull a shot that was visibly pretty, but they all taste like ass. Amazing how much it matters...

The Tanzania Peaberry has been a hit, it's a good place to start. As far as grind, I have a maestro, the previous model, so it's I can't tell you what setting. I'm sure someone else here will chime in soon!

Hey poison....you should do this.

What Hollywood celeb wouldn't want you twirling around in their mansion as you make Thai Iced Coffee (i love condensed milk, BTW)? And you get a chance to kill Justin Bieber, should he show up.

I tried Kobrick's for the first time recently. Pretty damn good. One of the best I've had.

I haven't been making coffee at home for quite some time, but someone sent me a free box of this stuff. Really outstanding.

I'm not the only one who makes good espresso! Glad it was good.

first pot... so much win.

I think it brewed just shy of 5 min for the whole pot... I am impressed with how fast it brewed without losing quality.

Got a pound of some Yemen Red Haraaz AA+ coming this week that should be fun in addition to a couple other coffees to evaluate. Anybody heard of the Yemen? It's supposed to have gotten very limited distribution in the states.

Nate, I'm curious as to your thoughts on Blue Bottle? They're semi local to me up here in the Bay Area and we've tried a few of their varieties. Generally I've found them pretty good, not overly strong but pretty smooth (these were all french or aeropressed).

Blue Bottle has done some decent coffee offererings the last few times I've been there, but it has also been a while since I've stopped by them.

I mean, the original melitta filter was developed over 100 years ago, so it's got this nice fancy name and all that, but it doesn't change the fact that a V60 is pretty much an exact replica of one of the original melitta filter baskets.

Never mind. It's just good that there are more options out there for people to taste good coffee, I imagine though that someone's going to get this and use it with a standard blade grinder though.
