Grinding sound with Hawk HPS
Hi guy, I just changed to Hawk HPS pads on my 07 hawkeye rex with auto tranny. Just before coming to a stop I will hear a grinding sound. When I let go brakes and move off also grind. Other speeds, no squeal no grind.
The grinding sound greatly reduces when pads warm up. Pad characteristics or I should check the installation and grease?

Did ya have rotors turned or replaced? Is there a lip on the rotor?
Did ya lube slide pins? Did ya lube the back of the pads? |

Rotors are 65K miles old. The mechanic said it was still good. Pins and back of pads were lubed with Hawk supplied grease. Reckon it needs more grease?

if these are carbon or carbon composite...
i had carbon brake pads on mine...obtained for free so i put 'em on. much grinding at low speeds and lots of grind wen wet and left residue on my rims that did not come off. the pads are meant for high speed and constant braking, not street driving. one of the dumbest things i did to myself. |

I run these because I bought them long ago and want to get hte money out of them. They DO this, they are crap too. They cover your fenders, and wheels in carbon/iron bits that will start rusting and cook into the clearcoat.
You have to grease them weekly. They also eat rotors, and the gas slots fill up with pad material. They really are poor pads... |

I ran the HP+ pads a while ago and they ruined the finish on my wheels, but the HPS pads don't do anything like this. Don't want to be spreading false information. |
