Default Trouble Shifting after donuts?

I pull into a parking lot full of a ton of slush and snow to do donuts today. That lasted about a minute so i went to park, i get into a parking space and try to shift into park, and the car willnot shift out of N, into R, to get to P. It was stuck in Neutral and wouldnt budge into R, or P. But i could go back down to D, 3, 2, or 1st gear. but not into R or P. I try it again pushing the shifter harder into R, (using more force than i should need to to shift) and then it shifts into R and then P. I try to shift again and drive around another minute just to be sure nothing is wrong. What would cause trouble shifting from D->N->R after doing donuts??? (2007 impreza, auto) any thoughts?

Its the Stick Shift Gods punishing you for driving an automatic.

(Make sure your foot is on the brake while you are trying to move the gear selector)

If it gets stuck in park there is a override under the little tiny door. Flat blade screwdriver. If its those damn manual god again... It cant be helped.
