Default 08-14 wrx Perrin tmic

Quick question... installed my tmic yesterday but when I closed the hood I heard this awful sound. Opened the hood up and found some of the back fins got bent. Took a look and slow closed the hood to see that the back of the hood scoop splitter was hitting it. Is it ok to remove that piece? Or is it needed and needs to be trimmed? It's being held on with four plastic clips.

If so, trim it.

New issue... the tb to ic hose looks a little short to me... is it ok to loosen the tb clamp and ic clamp and even out the hose a bit? The ic clamp keeps slipping but maybe I didn't tighten it enough with a socket.... I really don't feel like taking the tmic off again since it was such a bitch to put in...

Are you using the stock TB to IC hose? I have the same intercooler and it is not fun getting it positioned correctly. You should be fine with a small gap down by the TB, just make sure you are getting a good seal on both ends. The hose rotation is also a pain...

stock hose? did you take off those endcaps? they will fail and the hose will slip off. i removed those endcaps years ago and mine fit fine with the perrin and oem tb hose.get the hose on first then pull toward the front of the car to seat it good. then down onto the turbo flange. dont let it hang tightening up the turbo flange bolts. they strip very easily. also dont overtighten them.

I positioned it at the very end of the hose and after about 10 or so pulls I checked again and see that the clamp has moved about a quarter inch. This stupid black plastic tube for the breather doesn't allow me to slide the clamp all the way over. It's driving me nuts! That's as good as I could get it... so the better way would be to take off the entire hose and mount it on the tmic then back onto the tb? I already damaged some threads on the turbo but was able to chase the threads back.

I wonder if there is anyway I can just loosen both clamps and adjust the hose without taking everything apart

did you remove the hose completely the first time? it is a absolute pita to get it positioned right after removal. when i took off my endcaps i had to try to get the hose right for about 45 minutes before it was angled right. also, make sure it isnt hitting the slave cylinder banjo bolt on the underside of the core. ive been through all this. i even had issues with the o-rings melting 2 times on the tmic flange. ended up using a mr gasket reusable gasket thats known in the legacy gt world. it also shimmed it up some to keep the core away from that bolt i mentioned. i would never buy another perrin tmic.

No I did not remove the hose as I was afraid I was going to have an issues putting it back. Just the ic side has the ring removed. I have the updated Perrin tmic so it's not hitting or rubbing anything. I did buy the MR gasket as I read about the o-ring issue

I'd even consider a aftermarket hose as well if it actually makes things easier but from what I read online it might make things worse?

Curious to know what the steps you guys took to get your Perrin in with no issues.... what was the sequence as far as tightening the intercooler? Tighten the tb to ic first the install the turbo bolts? Cause I tightened up the turbo bolts first before the tb to ic clamp.

after its in place loose,i start the driverside bolt for the support bracket. then get the turbo flange bolts snug down. hold the tmic perfectly straight against the flange while you start and snug those 2 bolts. then tighten the tb hose clamp and install the bypass valve.

Very similar. Get alignment situated right in the TB hose vs the turbo and set the clamp enough to hold. Mount BPV. Start with the driver side IM supports loosely, then the one nearest the firewall. Align/Lock down turbo flange, lock down TB hose, tighten down support bracket bolts. After about the first 20 times of being terrified of it/fighting, it is nothing to pull it down or put it up except when the BPV has to come off. Planning to replace the stock BPV hose soon to ease that pain of stretching it.

Only had a problem with any threads when a shop tried to do it, so now they're a little 'dirty'. My original Perrin TB hose is starting to split along the underside of the IC, so I need to replace it soon.

If you go with an aftermarket TB hose, the Perrin one before their redesign to accommodate the newer WRX works fairly well if you can find it. After their redesign, it seems just a hair too short to line up the IC-Turbo threads any longer pre-14 without severe pain and clear the intercoolers lip.

Edited: Using correctly sized T Clamps like those included in the Perrin kit really helps get enough tension and the margin for error seems small. On a side note, I tried up-sizing 1 size step on the T clamp vs the ones included with the Perrin hose to make life simpler, and in two attempts couldn't chase out the boost leak before going back to the just barely able to clamp around the intercooler's neck size.

I'm planning to order a Mishimimoto or AVO hose in the near future to check its fitment.

Lmfao tightening the throttle body hose first to the intercooler did the trick! 20 minutes had it on and off! Once I tightened down the clamp the intercooler sat perfectly in place... didn't have readjust anything! Road tested for 30 minutes hitting 19psi many times... clamp held on with no issues! Thanks again everyone!!!

I know slightly diff layout, but on my LGT I trimmed the silicon tb hose at a slight angle on both ends (after fitting in the tmic to get a rough idea of the angle). Shaved maybe 1/4 inch at 10 - 20 degree angle. Fits perfect now. Using some weather stripping to seal it up since I didn't want to trim the engine cover.
