2008 WRX boost issue
Hey guys I have a 2008 WRX and it has a cat back Agency Power Exhaust, K&N Short Ram Intake, Turbo XS BOV, but still on stock tune I'm pretty sure, and I'm having an issue with boost, when I go to get on it or anything I feel like the car is holding back, and like studdering a little bit if that makes any sense? Its kind of hard to explain, but it feels like I'm loosing boost then gaining it back right away but like it's cutting in an out, if anyone knows anything along these lines please let me know because this drives me crazy!! Thanks guys!!

Pretty brave to put an SRI and catback without a proper tune.
You sure what you're feeling isn't misfiring? |

I've been told catbacks require no tune what so ever. Also, some SRIs such as TSX don't require a tune either. There's some very conflicting info floating around this forum.

MY08+ WRXs are REQUIRED to get a tune if a different intake is being used. MAF scaling WILL be off, and COULD potentially damage the engine. Unless he has taken it to a tuner for a base line to check if everything is running 'safely', there's no way to tell. OP needs a tune with that intake.

put it back to stock. Read all of the unibomber's posts. Re-read them. Study them. Then decide where to go from there.

Wow thanks for all the feedback guys! Getting kind of nervous now because of everything I've just read.. I bought the car the way it sits with all of those mods about 2 weeks ago, so I'm not sure if its tuned to be completely honest, is there any way to tell? I don't have a boost gauge installed yet but I just bought one so it will be soon.

I'm a noob here but I would say hook that gauge up immediately check to see if you're running factory boost levels. Regardless you should get to a tuner ASAP and get **** sorted out.

If it's holding back and "studdering" and the cause is mechanical damage (e.g. a broken ringland), a tune will not fix the issue though it may prevent additional damage being done elsewhere in the engine.

Buy an access port. I'm fairly new here but I have read several threads on here already that say. If you have an intake you need a tune right away. And also with the bov you need a tune as well. I had issues like this with my speed 3 where it would literally cut out and kick back on full boost right away. I tuned it and it never happened again.
