225/45-17 tire size fits ok?
Tirerack lists 215/45 as the original equip for 17in wheel Subaru. However they also recommend putting 225/45 on the 17in Prodrives I wanna get from them. Will they fit without rubbing the sidewall, and what about speedo, the 225 ones have taller sidewall.
I know there are quite a few people here with 17 in. Need a help here before my poor wallet becomes ... more poor. BTW they have secure lag nut set for $24 is it a good price?

Don't touch that type of lug set. The key's pattern can shear off, leaving you with/without lugs and necessitating drilling/burning to remove. Don't do it.

Hmm I though it was preety common to use secure lag set. My camaro came from factory with it.
BTW from looking ad different threads, I decided to go with P1 + 215/45/17 tires Shinmo HZ+ (or something like that ) It seems like some people experienced rabbing with 245s under heavy load - for me safety first -so no rabbing allowed on the highway |

I'm not knocking secure lug nuts. Just THOSE ones. The keys are week. Look for something in the forged variety.

for future reference, you car could run 225s no problem. you might want to stick with the 215s though because the wheel you bought (i have the prodrive P7) is 7" wide not 7.5". you can certainly mount 225s on a 7" wide wheel but there will be some sidewall bulge, which is not optimal. 225/45/17 is actually the closest to stock diameter, though. therefore your speedo would be most accurate. good luck.

205/50 16 = 24.1" overall 215/45 17 = 24.6" overall 225/45 17 = 25.0" overall That's nearly an inch greater than stock for 225. Not that it matters to me... just ordered SSR Comps with 225 PP S03s!!! |

i'm not sure what you are talking about. stock is 205/55/16, correct. looking up RE92s in that size shows a diameter of 24.9 inches.

I was looking at the sizes of S03s on the Bridgestone site...
205/50R16 24.1 215/45R17 24.6 225/45R17 25.0 I looked up RE92s and got the same number 205/50R16 24.1... Where are you finding your data? |

Hmm can I get a better set of secure lag nuts locally, like AutoZone etc. Also do you recommend installing wheels professionally or do it myself - consider that I've never did as much as changing a flat. Also, I assume that simply changing wheels doesn't require for me to follow up with wheel alignment. - right?

I run 225/45/17 Sumitomo HTR+'s on SSR Competitions with no rubbing issues. I'm very happy with this set up...
This is the size you should go with to stay the most accurate with your speedometer. (this is for the sedan, they say wagons should run 215's) |

205/55/16 is stock indeed. not 50. to answer another question. if the tires came mounted and balanced on the wheels you can just bolt the new ones on. you should probably use a torque wrench, though (torque to 65-80 or so). just tighten the bolts across from eachother as you go. your alignment should be unaffected.

Well I guess first time for everything- I'll try to install wheels myself. P1s that I'm getting are 17x7 so I guess 215/45 are the most optimal size to put on that rim. I'm getting them in GOLD - any pics?
So I will need to stop by local autozone and get cross torque wrench - any suggestions? Finally, tirerack recommends to retighten wheels after 100 or so miles - do I need to elevate car for that? And finally, I gather I don't need to do anything special about mounting wheels, just take off stock ones, whipe the disks and install new wheels. ... heeeelp |

True. Torque adjustment or re-torquing SHOULD be done with the car on the ground. Otherwise the wheel will spin freely (save if someone is applying the brakes). Tighten the lugs as much as you can before the wheels start to spin. Once on the ground, properly torque each bolt in a star pattern, NOT clock- or counterclockwise.
