You just need a file for the US ECU and a file for the JDM ecu. You the file on the US ecu and the car will pass OBD2 inspection. Then if you choose, You can install the JDM ECU and the matching file for that ecu and you are all set. Most keep two ecu's. Its not two full tunes.

no you can just flash back and forth. you need to get it tuned esp. the tgvs on ur wrx engine are used for avcs on the jdm engine so that is prob a ton of codes to start. driv eit there with the jdm ecu and swap ecu's there. just leave the carpet pulled up. takes 5 min to do.

well then get a tactrix and change it. there are way too many tables to change for us to just say do this this and this and it will be fine. you spent this much on the engine. throw some cash on the table for a tune dude. someone local must be able to tune it for you to get it to pass for 100-200 dollars. a small expense should not be a problem with a sports car.
I hate ppl who ask me for a discount on a tune since they are short on cash. I already charge half the price of a shop and spend way more time on it. Not trying to be a dick but if you cant afford a tune to run the engine should have went with a ej205 and been good to go and have money left for repairs or a vf series swap on it. in the last message i ment to say " no you can't just flash back and forth" yeah rough correction mod only takes a min or less for the car to get out of and be in normal driving conditions. |

I apologize if I know next to nothing about tuning and ECUs but I have no experience in this department and I just want to get my car on the road. Last edited by 2JZ; 03-12-2013 at 12:33 AM. |

wheres the original 92x ecu? my guess it would be the best baseline ecu to use in your case since it matches the chassis harness exactly

Very interested in a V8 and talking with a vendor now. I was sent pictures and the timing cover is broke but the vendor assured me he will replace it and will give me a newer (the original is fubar'd) TMIC. I searched for broken timing covers in this thread and came up with a few and most said it shouldnt be a big deal. Compression test yielded 130psi and he said he will send a video tomorrow. Anything else I should be concerned with or ask?

Also ignore the DP in the background, it is off a V7 and will be receiving a twinscroll one

^^ broken timing belt cover is very common on these motors. As long as the cam gear is good and wasn't damaged (looks OK on the pic)... you're fine. Mine had it too, so we took my buddy's worn out BMW "roundel" emblem and some black gorilla tape... and you can't even tell now
Also, ask for the ECU code, to make sure it's matching and not a v9 one (immobilized). |

Don't let the little thing's diswade you though. This I recommend Plugs Timing belt and pulleys Water pump/thermostat Oil change Company32 cam lock Iap avcs wiring harness. My timing belt came with a notice about the belt rub issue people have talked about. Also came with a plastic red tool to space the belt from the belt guide.
