Boost Controllers?
Which is better, Manual or Electronic and why?
Do they add more power? *Note* Running pretty much stock with turboback exhaust. Plan on upgrading the turbo, but not going wild.

You will most likely get a lot of different views on this one. IMHO I like electronic better. I had an MBC for a while and never really trusted it completely. It did it's job, but after a while it stopped holding reliable boost and endless amounts of tuning never did anything to cure.
Not all are like that though, there are some that are very good, it's just a question of whether or not you want to get under the hood everytime you want to make an adjustment to your level. I believe TurboXS has a dual stage MBC that is switchable from inside the cabin, but don't quote me on that. I installed a Profec-B about a week and a half ago and I love it. Rock solid, stable boost. And what's best, I can change the settings from inside the car. They only add more power because you are dialing in higher amounts of boost. I recommend the EBC. But that's just my two cents. |

What boost is safe for the stock turbo on a day-to-day basis? Do the EBC's automatically adjust to your driving or do you set them just as a MCB?

you will experience fluctuation in boost levels with an EBC and MBC due to the atmospheric conditions constantly changing. like 02R6 said, the EBC will give you better control of boost levels from inside the cabin so you can adjust on the fly when you see spiking or driving on cold days and boost levels rise. keep it around 15-16 psi and you will hopefully stay away from any detonation. just be careful cuz if you run these items you will have no control over your partial throttle boost levels and the EGT's will go way up. i would recommend also looking at the Vishnu EMI adapter to keep you in a safe range but still give you the boost you want. hope this helps....

So if I keep it at 15psi I should be safe on a daily basis without any damage to the engine/turbo and will have more power for the occasional freeway race

15 psi should be fine for daily driving. I keep my low boost setting at around .5 or .6 bar for running errands and driving around town. I keep my hi boost setting at around 1 to 1.1 bar for fun.
