Default Tire wear, or do I just suck?

I'm currently running on Kumho 710's sized 225/50/16 on Stock 16x7" wheels. Stock shocks Alignment settings of 1.3 LF 1.4RF Negative camber, and roughly 1/4 toe-out in the front. 1.6 degrees negative camber in the rear. Zero toe. Tire wear seems to be about 2/32-1/32"

I've at roughly 65 runs plus or minus a few, with half on asphault and half on sticky concrete. Also of note, this is my first season on R-compounds, 2nd total of autocrossing. The last two events the courses were designed by and for AM and FM cars. Both had a huge sweeper and loop and were anything but technical or tight.

After both weekends I've been paxing lower than normal, and genuinely feel that the car should've been capable of faster times than I was able to produce. Even with different lines, driving style, etc.

My question is, are my tires are their way out, is it possible the courses were just highly unfavorable for my car, is it because I don't water the tires down, did I forget how to drive, or is storing my tires outside in my shed being detrimental to their life span? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

who will agree that the tires are heat cycled out after 65 runs. Just because there is tread on them, it doesn't mean they are good

Am I the only one thinking that on a Impreza 65 runs is pretty good to get out of 710's. I was under the impression that the in a heavy camber challenged car the 710's are good for right around their before the cords make their appearance on the outside edge.

A while ago I ran a set of A008RSII on a 1700 pound Corolla that was in a class equivalent to Prepared. They still were at 80% tread 2 years and 150+ runs later. They were super slippery from being heat cycled to death. Still looked good to use though. It was tough to throw away what looked like perfectly good tires.

710s are happy with less camber. Its the Hoosiers that blow donkey balls. Granted -1.4 is not optimal, but its not horrible either.

It also helps that the tires are a tad squezeed on the stock rims. Making an already round shoulder, rounder. The tires have held up really well, but I was hoping to get 100 or so runs out of them.

Is my storage space at all detrimental? An apartment closet, outside, in texas heat.

I guess that could affect them. A "heat cycle" is the tire getting up to operating temperature and then back. I would say 150-160ish would be operating temp, but if they are seeing 120ish or so in a shed in the heat day in/day out, I could see how that could harden them up over time.

Call the Kumho technical center and ask 1-330-670-2619 (I think that might be rudy's direct line, so if it hits VM, just hit 0).

From one of Kumho's road race drivers -- new Kumho's need to be heat cycled once then allowed to cure for 24 hours. Makes a huge difference in the lifespan. In road racing it's about 8 sessions before they lose their grip. Don't know about autocross.

Your closet sounds like a tire torture chamber ...

They should be stored cool and in bags ... anything to help slow down their out gassing. If you love them they should share your air conditioning (bagged)! :-)

... I've already spent close to $3k on R's this year ... hope what I have lasts me for two more local Champ events ... one set of 710's and one S-05's ... and then I'm praying for a rainy fall and winter so I can use street tires. :-(

National Champ Leslie Cohen & her husband spent $10K on R's last year for the Vette that won her a championship ... this year she's racing a STS Civic! :-)

I have them in bags, and in the dark, and it's dry. It just happens to get really hot during the day. Trust me, if I had room in my apartment I would store them there. However, my 650 sq ft is already packed with 2 kitty's and a girlfriend.

I'm not sure my GF or Kitty's would be happy if I stuck them in storage.

So they're considered overflow against the tires?

Well dur. I've gotta have space to stick 2 sets of wheels and tires, plus all my other stuff. Why would I stick them in storage, when they can have carpet, A/C and indoor plumbing?

How about a street tire like the RE070, how does their grip degrade over a period of time?
