I commute right past Smokey Point (where that tractor cop sits), and today I made sure I stayed under 65. From Marysville to Arlington I was on a lookout for tractors My only speeding ticket is on that stretch of road, the speed limit changes to 70 right after that Smokey Point exit and I was going 68 a quarter mile before it

But yeah, pretty rediculous. The speeders they pull over are the ones that are passing in the "fast" lane, not very often do I see the cars that swerve in and out of lanes getting the ticket.

They were hyping this up on the TV news this morning too - but notice how they never say that these "high speed" areas have a higher accident rate.
Probably because they don't...

Quote:
"Our research shows that about 40 percent of all fatal collisions on Washington roads are caused by excessive speed," Nerup said.
Yeah, but thats on all the highways right? And what about drunk drivers?
http://www.madd.org/stats/10213
Quote:
2004 Traffic Deaths, 2004 Alcohol Related, Percent Alcohol-related, 2004 involving a .08+ BAC driver, Percent Involving a.08+ BAC driver

Washington, 567, 247, 44%, 202, 36%
So 44% of the fatalities are involving alcohol? Wonder what percentage of those are speeding? Hmmm

Me thinks its a revenue thing.

Oh this gets better, I just mentioned this to my friend and he told me about one of WSP posters that featured a trooper, using a sextant that was modded with a laser/radar gun. This trooper was in a "construction zone" that WSP setup. Sketchy eh? I'm looking for the poster now.

hmm...not very sneaky anymore now that everyone knows about it. lol, it was pretty sneaky but not anymore. Now we need something else creative, perhaps a pedestrian walking on the freeway with an ipod but the ipod is really an look-like-an-ipod-radar-detector

I heard from the news they tagged a woman doing 97mph, the ticket was something like $545. Surprised they didn't write her a reckless endangerment and take her car on the spot! That's rediculous!

So, if you see a Deere on the road, slow down!

+1 I am all for it. Just do the speed limit, speeding only gets your destination only acouple of minutes faster and runs the risk of getting some costly tickets, even if you take it to court your still out the money. But then again this is just my opinion

She was written a ticket for negligent driving.

Neg. is basically an "advanced" speeding ticket, not too bad in the scheme of things.

I am noticing the 18 wheeler going by... apparently you can get the law enforcement to ride along with you.... you go along at the proper speed, they ride shotgun on their radio... when they see something they radio to the other units. I told my trainer I would do that... just cruise up and down I-5 all day.... no loads, no deadlines, no backing up to docks.... cushy job

3 min late is still 3 min late, well for me

if traffic wouldnt stop all the time and just stay at the speed limit and not 20mph below it, i would be so so happy.

Actually it is more of a "blanket" ticket that they can issue that for almost anything (as long as you deserve it) but not yet a felony.

Don't give them any good ideas. They've already made attempts to do things like that in the past.

What bothers me is how they'll ticket me for doing 67 mph in a 55 zone, while the tractor trailer next to me is doing 65. I'd have to do what, 300 mph or so to have the same amount of kinetic energy as that truck?

I'd like to see express lanes with much relaxed speed limits. We'd have to restrict access to them to make it work. Europe gets to have an autobahn because it costs a couple thousand dollars to even get a driver's license over there, and it's real easy to lose it.

If they wanted to stop people speeding in these hotspots, they would have visible squad cars placed there, because people slow down when they see it. This is nothing but a bs method of generating revenue.

I think that they should increase the speed limit to 70mph on 405 and 5.
