I can back up that bags are very nice in terms of comfort over coilovers. You'll loose the "bounce" for the most part and have much easier adjustments.

Here is my ride height on Air Lift.

Car looks good! I'm not sure how many pics I already have of your car for my wallpaper. Makes me want to save up for some air. Friend of mine has air on his Lexus SC300. Says the same thing about the difference between coils and bags.

Just finished the air install on my wagon and my girlfriends sedan this last week. We went with Air Lift Autopilot V2 kits from Bag Riders. My wagon took home 3rd Place JDM at the Fatlace/Slammed Society showcase at Formula D over the weekend

Anyone answer? I've never been in a bagged car.
Sorry been out of the office a few days at a show in NJ. We're back!

In my opinion, Air Lift Performance suspension for our Subarus has a more comfortable, yet still very comparable ride quality to high-end coil-overs. Obviously you can't compare a $2500+ suspension system to an $800 set of coil-overs. I have my air suspension dialed in to be very firm, but as other users have noted the frequency of an air strut when properly configured is nothing like a coil-over with an incredibly firm spring.

I can answer your other question directly: my girlfriend was extremely happy when I switched to air suspension a few years ago. She noticed a big difference in ride quality as a passenger, and for me, I got to keep the firmness that I enjoy when cornering and otherwise spirited driving. Given, I still swerve to avoid speed bumps which she dislikes, the overall ride quality of air ride can be stamped as "girlfriend/wife approved" as far as I am concerned

Feel free to PM me directly, or give us a call (802 735 2574) should you have any other questions!

Cheers,
John

The car looks pretty high in the front because the front wheels are slightly turned to catch more light.

John basically hit in spot on. On my 11 wrx i switched over from bc racing br coilovers and a hell of a lot of suspension mods. The bags are wayyy smoother for daily driving and i wouldnt have it any other way. even with a full car the car rides like a cloud literally. even when i ride dumped it still rides smooth.

the only down side is i did loose a little bit of handling when switching over. my steering wheel is AS responsive as it was.

Stock wheels because Australian police hate my RS's

IMG_0001 by sebastienpeek, on Flickr

And this is from the weekend, rolled this height for over 800km and then rolled even lower when I got to my destination.

IMG_0005 by sebastienpeek, on Flickr

And laid out on the RS's.

IMG_0072 by sebastienpeek, on Flickr

Need to still notch the front and rear so I can lay frame on my stock wheels.

Are you running the exact same camber, wheel size / width and drive height as you were on coil-overs? If any of these factors changed it is not really a fair comparison... What kind of pressure are you running at your drive height? You would likely benefit from shortening your front struts a bit in order to obtain a stiffer rolling spring rate!

For a few days yes. When I had the BC i had 18x9.5 +38 RPF1 with 275/35 tire and roughly -1.5 camber in the rear. When I installed the bags I immediately noticed the loss of stiffness on my steering wheel. The major problem I ran into is the rear bags on my GR cannot go high enough to safely run such a big tire. I have the rear shocks twisted as high as they go and even at 55psi or 60psi in the rear the car is too damn low and rubs far too much. I would have to dial in 3-4 degrees of camber in the rear to be able to drive the car...shortly after that I put my works on which dont count towards handling lol.

What PSI should I be driving at for maximum performance? I have new wheels coming 18x9.5 +40 with the same 275/35 tire and really want to give the bags a shot but I am worried they won't work with a real aggressive tire.

In regards to the rear on the GR... Do you have aftermarket LCAs? What I've seen come up recently is that the aftermarket LCAs have a slightly lower mounting point giving about 30mm less lift to the Air Lift kit. The rears do not have as much lift as other cars on air, but you should be able to get a 2-3 finger gap on stock LACs. As for driving PSI I've seen that it is recommended to be around 45 PSI up front and 50-60 in the rears. My typical PSI on the GR is 35 up front and 52 in the rear, but I do ride a little lower then some others. If going on a road trip it may be closer to 44 and 58.

Oh looks great Loving the WRB as always.

I am down for the year cracked cylinder so I never rushed into my install all my parts are still in the boxes .

Tanks also never arrived so I had no real push to install .

Keep up the great work guys I will be gathering parts and installing a new motor.

I've chosen bags over coils and am currently researching the hell out of this.. but not sure if I really want to do the install myself. If anyone knows of a reputable shop in VA, DC, or MD that can do this work properly, this is something I'm willing to drop money on.
