Question 2009 Impreza Outback Sport rear bumper step pad?

I notice that in the specs published by Subaru for the 2009 Impreza Outback Sport that a "rear bumper step pad" is standard equipment. I understand this is a rubber pad that says Subaru on it and is on the top of the bumper below the rear hatch. My car doesn't have one, and I didn't see one on other Outback Sports on the lot at the dealer. Toyota has something that is just a clear sticker, but my car doesn't have that either.

Is this an error on the Subaru specs publication, or is it something some of you have on your cars from the dealer?

It's worth noting that the Outback Sport on the Subaru.com website has the step pad. Or is it a "rear bumper cover" and the step pad something different?

Thanks

I was confused at the first time when i got my 09 OBS... "Rear Bumper Underguard" is the standard which comes with OBS... but the one your referring to is "Rear Bumper Cover" which you need to pay for as an extra....

The black scuff guard for the top of the rear bumper is an option, as listed on the 2009 OBS "Options & Accessories" page on the Subaru.com website. The under-bumper silver "guards" are standard on the OBS.

That being said, I think that it would be a smart thing to include on the car as a standard item. I will be getting one sooner rather than later for mine.

No, what we're talking about is something called a "rear bumper step pad" not the rear bumper underguard.

Does anyone know what a "rear bumper step pad" is? It is standard equipment with the Outback Sport according to Subaru.

This?
http://www.brandsport.com/sub-e771sfg000.html

(just googled - not sure the quality of that site)

Per http://www.cars101.com/subaru/impreza/impreza2009.html

yes it is standard (see INDIVIDUAL OPTIONS, 2009 table, near very end)

EDIT: you are in the US right? I know at times CAN has different specs (and fill out your profile )

EDIT2: hmm on the pics page http://www.cars101.com/subaru/imprez...09photos2.html the bumper step pad is MIA.

I've been of no help..

Appreciate your reply. I'm in the USA, yes, near Seattle. I'll have to contact SOA about this, I guess.

Then you're relatively close to Jamie - she should be able to help clear things up and sell you the part PM SubieGal (I forgot her vendor ID)

She's from SubaruGenuineParts.com / Chaplin's Bellevue Subaru

Thanks, but if the official spec sheet from Subaru says it's included, I wouldn't pay for it...

I'm shopping for a 2009 OBS right now, been to 3-4 dealers in the area, and every OBS that I recall having looked at has that step cover, and I do not recall seeing it on the "options" list on any of those cars, whereas they did list things like the armrest extention, iPod kit, etc. I had this same question, so I was actually looking for it.

My '97 OBS has that cover as a standard feature, and I don't recall seeing an OBS in the last 12 years that didn't have one. I would be very surprised to find out that it was not a standard option.

I've just emailed Subaru of America via MySubaru.com and so we'll see what they say. It might be a misprint in the brochure, something like "these specs may change without notice." I'd love to have the step pad installed, I think it makes sense for this car as I'll be using the rack a lot for carrying stuff beginning this summer.

I just looked at all the 09's on our lot. It appears they do not come with one. We had one with a bumper cover on it, and it appeared on the window sticker as a $69 port installed option. Hope that helps.

As I said in my post above, the documentation on the Subaru website indicates the step pad/bumper cover is an option. Re-reading my post, it appears to be a bit confusing but we are talking about the same thing

OK, but the Subaru spec sheet on the Impreza models indicates the Outback Sport has one as standard equipment. That is what I am trying to confirm with SOA.

I just leased a 2009 Outback Sport for my son and asked my dealer this very question. She said she would ask her district manager and get back to me on 4/6/09. I'll post whatever she tells me.

I agree with those above, i.e. from the literature, it appears that a "bumper step pad" is an item that is different than the black, rubber, ridged pad that is glued to the top of the bumper that some also call a bumper cover (auto body guys call the entire, body colored piece, the bumper cover since the steel beam underneath it is the bumper). My son's new car does not have the black, bumper cover. Also, any of the OBS's on the lot that included this accessory also showed it as a separate, $69 line item on the window sticker. I think that's why those on this thread think we are supposed to get some sort of other step pad instead.

HOWEVER, in the 3-foot high flip page catalog in the showroom, the Bumper Cover (not Step Pad) is listed as a standard accessory. I'd say this means that Subaru uses these names interchangeably, and the literature is wrong and we will not get this item for free.

Talking a little late but...

I've not been on this forum for a long time...ahh...

Well Subaru of America sent me the rear bumper step pad free in the mail as a courtesy a few weeks after I contacted them. It's been on the car ever since and looks like it belongs there.

My car now has 23k miles and I love driving it every day!

Default Bumper Step Pad

My dealer spoke with the district manager who said the Step Pad and bumper cover are one and the same. Literature saying it would be included was incorrect as other cars in the lot that had the Cover clearly listed the extra cost on the Sticker.

To make good, the dealer sold it to me for 1/2 cost and installed it for free. I think that was fair but not nearly as good a deal as you got.
