2013 wrx streaming bluetooth issue
Hello everyone
Just bought a 2013 WRX, I've only had it a few days. I know everyone hates the factory deck, and I'm starting to see why. My main issue right now is with the bluetooth audio streaming. My phone syncs up just fine, and starts to play music. However, I can't use the folder button on the radio to select another playlist, it seems to do nothing. To get it working, I have to connect the phone (iphone 4s) via USB, select USB in, and then I can choose a different playlist. However, the music is now paused, and to get it playing again I have to press the input button again. The manual isn't very clear on how this unit works, but if I could get around this one little issue I think can live with this deck for a while at least. Is this normal?

Did you try pressing the "List" with the return symbol to bring you back to the playlist menu? I could change album and everything through the Unit with my android phone and and ipad 2 without having to connect them through USB>

You'll need to connect your phone via USB if you want the HU to display the folder/playlist/artist/etc and allow you navigate through that. I think it has something to do with limited supported for that over AVRCP/Bluetooth.
When I have my phone sync'd up through bluetooth, I'm able to skip to the next track with the steering wheel button. If you don't have the steering wheel buttons you would use the tune/track knob below the button labeled "Text". If you dont want to go through the hassle of plugging your phone via USB every time, you're better off creating icons/widgets for different playlists so it's easy to access them on your phone. This post is regarding the same thing: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...9#post37970109 EDIT: Did a bit more research, and it looks like it might be the head unit's fault if your iOS is up to date: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetoo...le_.28AVRCP.29 If your iOS is up to date, it should be running AVRCP 1.4 which says it supports media browsing on some players. But I doubt the factory head unit is going to support AVRCP 1.4. Since I have heard of users being able to see Artist/Song info when connected via bluetooth, it's probably running AVRCP 1.3 which doesnt support media browsing. Might require a firmware update if even possible. According to this Apple KB, even if the HU supports AVRCP 1.4 it mentions nothing of being able to have the browsing capabilities you have over USB: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4483 What I would do in your case is search for iphone-friendly head units. Search youtube for terms like head unit, iphone etc to see how some people might be doing that wirelessly. Last edited by Vater; 01-29-2013 at 08:21 PM. |

Thanks vater! Another annoying thing is after I switch to USB control it works, but at some point he head unit will decide to go back to bt-a and not work. So, you can't have USB control and Bluetooth pairing at the same time, and bt seems to take priority.
New head unit is going to happen, I've been searching on here for what models support all the steering wheel controls ( through the axxess ) but haven't seen anything definitive, only that they are "out there". |

On the bright side, upgrading your head unit will also improve the sound quality. Many here have reported that a new head unit improved their sound a lot. The factory HU is underpowered and doesn't do the speakers any justice. I plan on getting this one next month: http://www.amazon.com/JVC-2-DIN-Bluetooth-USB-CD-KWR900BT/dp/B0079LGLH4 The colors are customizable to match the interior lights and it supports the Axxess ASWC. You can even set the font on the screen to white like the factory HU, while making the rest of the buttons illuminate red. |
