Thanks for the pics torque. On onight's 'Notebook', Ted went through a lot of pictures of all the teams and pointed out a ton of nifty ducts, vanes and various bodywork pieces. Handy for a layman like me who just sees a car and couldn't spot these things, but I find it very interesting. Link, since it's not on Youtube.

as for videos: Peter Windsor has an interesting youtube channel with talk about F1 cars with Craig Scarborough (Scarbs) and others

http://www.youtube.com/user/peterwindsor/videos?view=0

as for the nifty bits and pieces:

williams are using a hollow axle

RedBull tried it last year, and the FIA called it illegal because it was turning (moving duct)

the Williams part should be legal because it doesn´t move or turn

I love those front wings. Knowing that they ran countless iterations to come up with that design being the best is awesome, let alone building such a thing. That's not trial and error (although they'll run many versions throughout the season), that's math/science/technology at it's best.

and that's why I love F1. To think that its designed to increase down force while shaping the air for the rest of the car while having as little drag as possible and also (for some of the teams) deflecting and changing at speed. Its just mind blowing the thought that goes into it.

I don't think stacking elements on a wing is ridiculous if it makes more downforce and the car faster overall.

Ted Kravitz's Notebook was absolutely awesome! I could stare at photos for hours just picking out the little details, but they've done it for me.

I think I understand the purpose of the vertical slot near the leading edge of the rear wing end plate. As the tire rotates it creates turbulent air which tends to increase drag on the rear wing end plate. By cutting a slot near the leading edge, air is allowed to pass from the pressure zone on one side of the end plate to the other (though I'm not sure which direction--perhaps its variable based on attitude or speed? Most likely inboard to outboard), and the slight turbulence generated tends to thicken the boundary layer on the outer side of the end plate. The thicker layer helps keep the rear tire turbulence from "sticking" to the end plate and increasing drag.

for me, I would like to see only one wing and more horsepower. Less downforce means slower speeds while turning, more drifting, and an increasing importance of the drivers skills.

testing times by the end of today

What I like is how during the race despite damage to the end plates of the front wings (50% of the time every time) they are just as fast.

Sometimes they're faster in the straights, but you always hear about the cars pushing through the corners with damaged front wings.

Yes driver skill is something that is very important, but this is F1 the top of the motorsport world. Which means the best of everything and one those is technology. I think F1 is past that era.

i would like to see better drivers in the poorer teams. just because you are racing in formula 1 doesn't mean you are one of the best nowadays. it's pretty common for a better driver to get passed over for a driver that brings more money in sponsorship to the team.

Unfortunately this is very true. It always seems to be about the money more now then ever. Just ask Bernie Eccelstone.

I almost fell out of love with it pre-09 since it became so boring. Then the double diffuser year happened, and the following years became quite a fight for position #2.

I make sure to watch it every night during testing. It's usually great post-race info too. He's a bit odd but seriously knows everybody in the paddock and is pretty on top of everything F1.

What do you expect a team with no budget to do? Hire a Glock or get some newbie who brings a lot of money and can be equally as quick? Pic and Glock were pretty even last season. Pay driver Maldonado won a race last year. Perez has moved to McLaren. They're not automatically crap.
