Holy crap, S. Vettel is 5'9" and weighs in at a feathery 128 lbs. He's built like a little girl. He is the lightest driver on the grid.

M. Webber on the other hand is 6'1" and 165 lbs, the tallest and heaviest driver on the grid.

For comparison sake, I am 1.77m and 89kg (if I was in tip top shape I would be 83kg). I guess even if I had the skill and all the money in the world I could never be in F1 driver based on my size.

Those F1 drivers are a bunch of skinny little dudes!!

64kg = 141lbs. Guy definitely does not weigh 128lbs. 64kg times two is 128, which makes me think someone mathd kilograms incorrectly. I am 5'9 and was pretty lean at 175lbs. I would look emaciated and sick at 128, like Christian Bale in the Machinist.

On the posted graphic Vettel is listed as 58kg. That is 127.868 lbs. How accurate the graphic is however, I don't know.

Daniil Kvyat gets Toro Rosso drive for 2014

Toro Rosso have confirmed Russian driver Daniil Kvyat will race for them in 2014 in place of Daniel Ricciardo.

Kvyat will partner Jean-Eric Vergne, who remains at the team for a third season. The 19-year-old Russian driver is currently second in the GP3 category with two races remaining.

He also appeared at most of this year's European Formula Three races, winning once at Zandvoort. He tested for Toro Rosso at Silverstone earlier this year.

"We are pleased to continue our policy of bringing on drivers from the Red Bull Junior Programme," said team principal Franz Tost.

"He impressed our team with a strong performance and very informative technical feedback at the young driver test in Silverstone. This suggests that the basic qualities from which he can progress are all in place. Daniil can be sure that we will use all our experience of training youngsters to give him the best possible start to his Formula One career."

Kvyat said his promotion to the team was "a dream come true".

"I want to thank Red Bull and Toro Rosso for giving me this priceless opportunity," he said. "Ever since I began karting, I wanted to get to Formula One and now that wish will become reality next season."

"I had a brief taste of working with the Toro Rosso team, when I drove for them at the Silverstone test and I enjoyed the experience very much. The fact I am based in Italy and speak Italian will, I am sure, help me to become part of the team very quickly."

Kvyat will be the second Russian driver to race in F1 following Vitaly Petrov. Russia will hold its first round of the world championship next year. Sauber are also considering promoting Russian driver Sergey Sirotkin to their team for next year.

Formula Renault 3.5 driver Antonio Felix da Costa had previously been tipped to take Ricciardo's place at the team.

Missing Toro Rosso F1 chance "hurts" - Da Costa

Antonio Felix da Costa says being passed over for an F1 drive in favour of Daniil Kvyat "hurts".

Da Costa was widely tipped to take the seat at Toro Rosso left vacant by Daniel Ricciardo. However the team announced today it will be taken by fellow Red Bull junior programme driver Daniil Kvyat.

"It hurts but it's like this," Da Costa wrote on Twitter, "I'm happy for Daniil and that it stays in the Red Bull family."

"And I love you all, all my supporters, fans and lovers, its been amazing to feel your support, its not over, thank you all."

Da Costa shot to prominence with a highly successful 2012 campaign in which he finished third in GP3 and fourth in Formula Renault 3.5 - the latter despite missing the first five races of the season.

However he failed to build on that success this year, due in part to some car problems and misfortune, and ended his second year in the category third behind McLaren development drivers Kevin Magnussen and Stoffel Vandoorne.
Wow, did not seeing that coming.

Using someones nationality as a reason for giving them a seat (imagine all the boring reporters questions next year "so, how do you feel about comments that you are only driving in F1 because of the Russian GP?" but they could have at least given an American a seat, since we already have one F1 race and uhh, are going to have two (hopefully?).

That said, its a huge disappointment. Da Costa, Sainz Jr, Frijns, all huge talents that need a seat. And this fool gets one. Ive literally never heard of him.

You've never heard of him. How do you know he isn't any good?

He's currently 2nd in the GP2 series. Da Costa finished in 3rd place in the same series last year.

He is second in GP3. The guy who is second in GP2 is a kid named Sam Bird, whose face I could pick out of a lineup of a half dozen blonde euro 20-somethings, whose name I have heard linked with an F1 team, and whose results I have watched on TV. He has tested for F1, he is in the Merc garage, during F1 programming they discuss his race results - he is someone I would expect to get a seat, along with the other young guys who missed out.

But Kyvat; I have never heard of him, has nothing to do with how good I think he is; but it has everything to do with how good everyone who knows something about the sport thinks he is. And those people, my friend, are the ones who havent been talking about him. Or, I'd have heard of him.

That being said, if you were right, if he was second in GP2, then hes possibly a hell of a talent and deserves a seat.

Once again, completely agree. Sam Bird completely deserves a drive as well. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if James Calado got a drive next year. These are the guys who have earned seats. These unknown Russians haven't.

To be fair, Kyvat's results are quite stunning; in the lower formulas.. But your high school runningback might be the star of all-county, and run laps around the defenders in the state championships, but if he went to the NFL he would get crushed. Thats the problem with kids going in too young to F1. The talent pool is very shallow until you get to WSR and GP2. F3 euroseries is a good place to watch the young ones, too - its insanely competitive. But nothing but renault 2.0 results and one season with 400-hp GP3 cars against a talent pool about 3-4 drivers deep? yikes.

You all need to buy a team to run it your way. Clearly the teams in f1 are inept according to you all. Internet jockeys.

The choice is interesting; after Mark Webber announced his retirement from F1, creating an opening at Red Bull Racing, da Costa was widely tipped as his successor. As the summer went on however Sainz staked his claim, helped by influential friends of his father, the former rally champion.

But this site heard from senior drivers in the Red Bull programme that the one they felt had the most talent was Kvyat and it is reassuring to see that the management shares this view. The youngster has really impressed this year in GP3 and still has a chance to win the title.

He will be following in the footsteps of Valterri Bottas who moved into F1 direct from GP3, without doing GP2.

Team principal Franz Tost said, "Daniil is a very talented driver, which can be seen from his results in all the junior categories. He was a very successful Kart driver and, in 2012 he took the Formula Renault 2.0 Championship title with 7 wins. This year, he competed in six rounds of the FIA European Formula 3 Championship, taking 1 win, 5 poles and 5 podiums.

"In addition to this, he is still in a position to win the GP 3 Championship, as he is only 7 points behind the leader. He impressed our team with a strong performance and very informative technical feedback at the young driver test in Silverstone."
Kimi didn't have much experience before coming to F1, and that seems to have worked out ok. However, Red Bull didn't want Sauber to sign him which led to Red Bull pulling their sponsorship from Sauber.

Sam Bird is not going to get an STR seat if he is linked to Merc.
