Exclamation TS Wagon Suspension Questions!!

Have they come out with any Eibach Pro Kit Springs for the TS yet? Also, I've test driven one and there is quite a bit of body roll. What can I upgrade to reduce this and will lowering the car by the eibachs help that?? Thanks in advance..

Reducing height will reduce roll. I have been asking these sorts of questions about 2002 with few guarantees. The rear components seem to be different for the 2002 RS sedan and may be different again for the TS wagon. I put a WRX sway bar on my '02 RS and it improved my roll a great amount. I think maybe a WRX wagon sway bar may fit your TS and that would be the first thing I would do. Consult an expert for fit and part number.

Actually your right about the WRX to TS sway conversion. Subaruparts.com does sell the sway that is stock on the WRX Wagon and they say it will fit the TS fine. I'm definitely gonna pick that up first. I'm just waiting for Eibach to make a set of Pro-Kits available. Thanks for the response

In another thread I saw that the WRX wagon stock rear bar is 18mm. You may want to try to find a 20mm in aftermarket rather than upgrading to the OEM part. Wagon may be a different geometry than WRX sedan. Ask an expert.

I put Whiteline Poly endlinks on my bar when I installed it. If I can do it myself, anyone can. ONE IMPORTANT TIP- get another person to clamp down the bushing bracket on the frame with large mouth pliers while you thread in the one screw that clamps the bar to the car. If you don't, you will strip the screw, then the nut welded onto the mount($16 part). Some may say replace the rubber bushings that hold the bar to the car with polyurethane but I heard the motion squeaks with yellow poly so I didn't. If you can find graphite impregnated D bushings or self lubricating that will fit under those clamps, you may try that. Another complaint is that the clamps dont use 2 screws, but a hinge tab slot and one screw, which causes flex. Whiteline makes replacements for those mounts that are stiffer but I don't know if they fit 2002 or wagons. You may find a replacement screw with a larger head or washer to reduce the flexing at that point but you get away from the tested factory spec.
The best price I found for the Whiteline endlinks was at this site:
http://www.pdm-racing.com/products/subaru_corner.html
These people sell bushings and have 19mm for front and 20mm for rear. Try them and tell me how you like them. Purple may not squeak like yellow according to my sources. http://www.opmd.com/cat105_1.htm
Anyone who feels that the suggestions I have made are dangerous, PLEASE comment.

"I have the Whiteline 22mm on my wagon. It fits fine. I have not really had the opportunity to flog the car with it on, but will do soon. What's the deal with those rubber endlinks? Seems like most of the benefit of the bar is going to be washed out?"

I really hate squeking so thanks for the info. I just want to reduce that body roll, so I will look for a 20 MM but i don't want an unnecesary noise like squeking. If you lubricate the yellows, wont they stop squeking then??

I got the 20mm rear swaybar on my 02RS and there are no squeaks or noises at all. It made a huge difference too

Brian

oh yeah my bar is the FHI 20mm rear bar

the wrx wagon has a 17mm rear swaybar
and the RS, TS, and OBS have a 13mm rear bar

b_tapper - It's not the bar that squeeks, it's the poly bushings. Most of the aftermarket bars (including the FHI one, I'm sure) retain rubber bushings, hence your lack of squeekiness. (cool word, eh? )

Frankie - Yes, the squeeking should go away as long as the poly bushings are properly lubricated. I have Powerflex bushings on my rear bar, lubed them up real good with the included lubricant and they don't squeek at all. I also have Kartboy endlink bushings, which did squeek (no lubricant included). Since I had some of the Powerflex lubricant left over, I pulled the bushings back out, lubed them, and Voila! the squeeking is gone.

How easy is the rear sway install and the end links? I'm not a hug tech guy when it comes to cars, i'm a big puss. When I get my wagon, I plan on just upgrading suspension only and then working on the engine much later...The rear sway will be the first, what about front sway?

I know about the bushings

Pretty easy if you have the right tools
If you get the rear bar + endlinks there is only 6 bolts total to unbolt.

Tools you need
14mm socket
14mm wrench
12mm socket
vice-grips or channel locks
+
A set of ramps would help
WD 40 or similar to help loosen the bolts

I'll be selling my stock springs/struts/rear bar from my WRX wagon next week on the private sales forum, if you are looking for options? I ordered the sti performance strut/spring package, and it should be on next week.

Sway bar and endlink installs are very easy at both ends of the car. (Well, I haven't actually been under a WRX, but I can't imagine they're any more complicated than on the previous-generation Impreza or my Legacy). The key for making it easy is to keep the weight of the car on the tires. I think the WRX is high enough that if you don't mind crawling on the ground you should be able to reach all the bolts without a problem.

Anyway, by keeping the car on the ground at normal ride height, the sway bars won't be loaded at all, therefore you won't meet any resistance trying to get the endlink bolts in and out. The sway bar bushing holders are kind of a pain, but if you lube the bushings they go back on pretty easily. It's a very easy job - I had never touched a sway bar before I did mine the first time, and it took me about 20min.
