Don't hold your breath. This is the first time Impreza's even been offered with leather (except a very limited run in the '90s, IIRC), and they've been using black/charcoal and ivory for years elsewhere in the lineup. But maybe XV will get something different.

If Ford is using the same dual clutch transmission that they are in the Fiesta, then you should have something to be leery about there too.

Same here. Currently leaning towards the Impreza as it seems to have a better interior. Never thought I would say that about a Subaru impreza. The skyactiv Mazda3 should be launching any moment now in Australia. Once impressions of the impreza start coming in, I should have a fairly clear idea on which is gonner be my next car. Hopefully, Australia will be getting the Canadian line up with Xenon and integrated turn signal on side mirror. Will make my decision much easier. Although Mazda3 with push button start will swing it back in.

I was comparing the focus, elantra and the impreza. I had a loaner last winter with awd and wishing they could get good mpg.....and along comes the 2012 /impreza. Now I just need to give up the zip of my mini. But i'm thinking the awd will make up for the times i get stuck in the alley.

First time poster here shopping the Impreza, Focus, Mazda3, Hyundai/Kias for a hatch for all the usual reasons (better MPG, handling, saving the planet...)

Test drove the Focus Titanium and SEL and was amazed by the content but not pleased with the ride quality or the feel of the DSG tranny. Granted, it was a short test and I didn't get to open it up much though. The rear seat was TINY (I'm tall but there was zero way for me to put a passenger in the back and drive safely).

Test drove the Mazda and was impressed by the handling and sporty interior on the upper trim level Grand Touring model, but NOT impressed with the ride quality on rough surfaces or again room in the rear seat for kids, dogs, or hauling the usual weekend "mass hysteria"...

Also, North America SkyActiv cars won't be here till early November and the initial cars will not have ALL of the SkyActiv exhaust system changes and underbody changes until mid-model year apparently (per the Sales Mgr). Good intel for Mazda early adopters...

Also shopping the 2012 Kia Soul (as the dark horse) candidate that gets similar MPG and more interior seating room (though close to zero cargo).

I have a friend at work with a 2010 Impreza hatch and the back seats appeared to be "deeper" than the Mazda3 so I'm hoping the added rear seat room and higher front seat "footwell" for rear passengers feet in 2012 will seal the deal. If anyone has been in the backseat of both current model and new hatchback models who can share experiences on how practical the rear seats are in the 2012, that would really help me hang on till the Imprezas are available!

I was shopping all vcehicles in the class. The Focus was dropped from the list as soon as i talked to my insurance agent. The Focus was going to be almost $900 every 6!

When the Focus first came out earlier this year I called the insurance agent and got a few quick quotes and even compared the Audi S3 TDI (which is about $10k more expensive) but the insurance on the Ford was way more than the Audi. Go figure!

I wonder if the Focus gets stolen more often due to being so common.

My best guess is safety concerns. Subies get great rates because of the AWD and the airbaggyness of them, not to mention I believe they still call the Impreza 5-door a wagon instead of a hatchback, and that matters. The Focus is still painted as the little, cheap, unsafe kid car (even though the new one most definately is not those things) and insurance companies get to choose how much it costs to insure things. It doesn't surprise me that it spikes some due to that point of view.

Just placed an order for 2% off invoice. I didn't use any promos, just straight up negotiation.

It ended up being around 450+ off invoice for my build (4DR Limited+sunroof+nav).

Are you running snow tires on your MINI in the winter? I find the MCS to be an excellent winter weather vehicle. The only failing it has, as with any FWD car, is steep bumpy ice-covered roads. A set of 16" wheels with some good Michelin snow tires is much cheaper than a brand new car.

For those pre-ordering the 2012, how are you working the interest rates (if not buying them outright)? My sister is thinking of going the pre-order route but wants to know if she should expect to go through her own bank or will Subaru most likely have their standard 3.9/4.9% being offered?

Financing is determined when the car shows up, so you get whatever deal they have at that moment.

based on info from cars101.com, it sounds like subaru will offer a 2.9% rate, but yea, will just have to wait until the car comes to get it figured out.

2.9% would be great.....but I just assumed that was wishful thinking on their part.
