Thumbs up DMS Golds and rally-x

Okay, here's the story: recent rally-x at Great Lakes Dragway (very nice field course), that I had decided not to run, because my helmet didn't show up. Got there, saw the course, and signed up, figuring what the heck? I was on 17" P1/Dunlop 9000 combo (I know....wrong, but I wasn't planning on running).

I didn't touch the damping on the Golds, so it's still at 15 clicks from full hard, a really good street setting, BTW. Nice and tight.

And off I went. No clunks, noises or weird stresses. What really surprised me was how good they felt on the course, especially during the fun runs, when everything was all bumpy and rutted. Where everyone else was bottoming out, I wasn't, and after about a dozen runs, I still hadn't neared the limits of the suspension. I had runs in the low :50s, except for one :47.7 which became a 52.7 when I hit a cone.

During the fun runs, I was running 47s, and kept getting faster. By way of comparison, best time in the class was a 44. It took me a bit to get up the nerve to just slam the ruts with impunity but once I did, the suspension really seemed to come into its own. Most interesting was that the car was never, ever unsettled by bumps. I had to forget what I was seeing with the other cars, really. They'd hit a bump or rut and get unsettled, so I would take it easy at that bump or rut, before realizing that I could hit that same bit, and my car was fine, nice and composed.

As soon as I hit the road post rally-x, I listened and checked to make sure all was well, and it was. After a good wash, the car is unaffected by the muddy delights, except that it does seem to have this weird steering problem that makes it head for grassy fields now. For those who don't know, I'm running 180 springs all 'round.

This is mostly an FYI post, since I don't know if anyone has ever commented on how these struts behave in rally-x. I know that Subie Gal rocks with her 50mms...
