I have been looking at the dpms rifles for awhile. Liking both the Sass and repr the most. The knights is beyond the budget by a long shot right now. What dmps rifle would you recommend?
Also how do you like the fn patrol bolt gun?

Hey guys I'm looking for a Remington 1100 semi shotgun, for hunting. I have seen a few on gunbroker at times that seem good, but the price was cheaper than I expected. I never bought a used gun before, so any advice anyone can give me on that?

I've had a DPMS AP4 LR 308 for a few years now and it's been a good shooter so far. Done a few upgrades to it like the stock/trigger/flash and it's always fun at the range. Really love it with the Big Chubby on it, recoils like a 5.56 but sounds like a cannon (not fun for all ranges ).

Apparently 9mm is selling for $27/box at local ranges now, they're running out.

I also stopped by CTD in McKinney yesterday, plenty of AR rifles on the wall, but the prices were ridiculous, S&W for $1995

I've only been to CTD twice but each time they were everything but. First time was to look at a PTR-91 that they had in stock. They attached a Harris bipod and a Tasco scope and wanted $2500 for it. That's over MSRP for all of those components and they weren't willing to budge. Maybe someone duped them on a trade-in because it was used (yeah, they wanted that for a used kit). Second time was to haggle over a new Savage 110BA and they wouldn't even price-match Cabela's (who also had one in stock). I ended up buying my BA online for way less than MSRP.

Unless it's a really cheap purchase you're better off buying out of state, avoiding TX state taxes, and paying the transfer fee to your friendly, local FFL.

Yeah I was only there to check out the insanity.

The only gun I've bought so far I bought at my LGS and they gave me a better price than anywhere online (including Buds and PA), using their own distributor. It's a Walther PPQ 9mm, I think Cabelas wanted $569 for it and it was $525 through Buds at the time, the gun store sold it for $499+tax.

Next gun will probably be bought through James.

It's a nice piece, I really like mine. Accurate, fires every time and an amazing trigger.

I talked to a distributor yesterday who told me it'll be at least four months before he has any PPQs. Walther didn't realize the demand that would happen and had scaled down production as they normally do this time of year, so now they're trying to play catchup.

Walther really does make the best striker-fire triggers. I picked up a Smith & Wesson SW99 from one of my customers, which is just Smith's version of the P99, and the trigger is awesome.

Better than saying "fires nine of out of ten times."

What I hear is the m2 version is coming out in the states and the original is discontinued. They changed the magazine release to be like most othe guns so the new mags won't work with old pistols. They are showing them at the SHOT show right now. I hear the new ones should be in stock before the end of next month.

Because some guns don't reliably feed, fire and eject every round?

I'll be the first to admit I'm not a gun expert, so if it was a dumb comment, my bad.

What I meant was that with roughly 1200 rounds or so through the gun I've only ever had a single failure to fire (bad primer), no failures to eject and no failure to feed. From what I've seen, heard and read about some other guns, that's not too bad of a track record, especially in the hands of an amateur.

I think the reverse of the statement is OK as negative feedback and a caution to others, but the positive just sounds funny to me. You bought it new, and it's expected to function a certain way, so if it weren't firing every round (barring duds in the ammunition or user error) then it should be returned. It's like buying a new car and, when asked how you like it, you say it runs fine. It's new, you would expect it runs, right?

I agree with you on that, you should be able to expect it to function all the time, that being said with guns as well as cars it's not always the case.

New cars have recalls, new guns sometimes need the same, and with cars as is with guns sometimes there's a design flaws in play.

I don't think it's unreasonable to mention the gun has been very reliable so far, it's pretty common to also do long term tests on new cars, for the same reason.

So I do agree with you, it SHOULD function properly every time, I was simply stating that it does.

In any case, it's a great firearm. The 0.1 inch trigger reset allows for some seriously quick follow up shots and there's no question that the limiting factor in my case is the operator of the gun.

We could probably get a few New Yorkers to come join us.

The real question is will Remington leave NY. I know they have been there a long time and are tied to the community, but screw that state.

Well, a lot of potentially sneaky **** today, but nothing completely nutty. Maybe"The Panic of '12" will end soon.

I need a nice 10/22 and the big HGCA show is this weekend in Houston, but I don't wanna wait in line for hours. Conflicted.

There won't be an assault weapons ban. It looked like it would for a while, but the votes aren't there for it.

But magazine restrictions I think will happen as a compromise. It's still going to be lean for a while out there getting things. And Russ, 10/22s are almost double what they were going for a while back. Basic wood stock ones are around $330, and synthetic ones are in the same area. Takedowns are going for over $600.

I'm fine with the background check improvements Obama is proposing. Makes me covering my ass easier. Some of the crap, like making doctors start asking about guns at home, is dumb as ****. But the majority of it is fine and won't change much, except for closing the gun show loophole.

But that's good for my business.
