Lightbulb Using the stock 01 Impreza scoop for performance use.

Anyone know a semi-easy way to use the stock 01 Impreza scoop as an engine cooling device? I'm not sure what I should use to cover it so water doesnt pour into the engine bay.

Rain pouring through the scoop into the engine bay causes no damage whatsoever? I'm a little nervous about that.

You should also consider the modification AZscooby.com did for the hood scoop. it's pretty cool and i'm sure others have done it as well. wish I had the tools to do it myself right now. but I will wait for a bit. right now I just drilled a few holes where I would cut part of the plate off. you'll know what I mean when you check out their website. Props to those guys and Good luck.

How much of a difference does it make by taking off the hoodscoop?? Is it worth it?

If you remove the plate your engine gets a whole lot dirtier a whole lot faster. Plus, from my standpoint as a college student, people have "mistaken" my scoop for a trash can on numerous counts, so that plate has saved my engine bay a bunch of times.

Performance is negligable, leave it on

can't u remove it and replace it with some sor of metal mesh? In u get it fine enough, u'll have the best of both worlds. (except water) also realize the WRX is open and im sure that it does just fine.

Actually I'm going to add a mesh grill the next time i go home. However, a mesh grill won't stop pollen and dirt from entering the engine.

Also, yes the wrx's scoop is open, but if you look, there is a ruber gasket-thing which seals the intercooler off from the rest of the engine bay.
