Nice car, nice numbers. Have you considered boost control?

Thanks guys, I have considered a boost controller but I haven't read up enough on it. I also had it tuned at PRE on the dyno -->
Anyways next I am thinking of options, because I have two years til I want to get a new turbo. I'm trying to learn slowly and a lot of the way by doing modifications to get it ready to track when I am out of college. Also I'd rather not take on that expense too. So I am thinking (not in order), TGV Deletes, TMIC OR FMIC, Fuel Pump, Port n Polish intake manifold and turbo. Let me know what your ideas are. Thanks! Oh and I had a TURBOXS up pipe on there before at 227 WHP. So just the header and a better up pipe got me +14 WHP. Anyways thanks for the input. Drive safe out there |

Yeah, maybe soon I'll post up a video...lol when I 'get around' to doing it. My To Do list right now sucks, wish I had more time to work on the car , spring term just started so im outta the mod game for the next 10 weeks. Once summer hits though, I've got plenty of plans for this car in the future

Tuner must be using a larger correction factor on that dyno because usually Sti will dyno 210-220 on that type. Great looking curve though. Do u have a better shot of the lower range?

Yeah, sorry I sent that picture with my phone. And thats actually even better news to me, lol. I didn't know they dyno that low...I've been told 225-235, but that's even better! Anyways yeah I'll have to get on later and get that picture up for you, I wish I had my first dyno...their printer was out of ink and long story short it took forever to get back to them and now my tuner said it would be too hard to find, at least at the moment. I still have the receipt for it so I am hoping I could go in next time I'm in town and get the previous dyno :/ we'll see

That torque comes in WAAAAAAY late for a TD04. As in, more than 1k RPMs late, and the buildup looks way smoother than it should be.
For a TD04, essentially Stage 2 + a header, I'd expect a WALL of torque no later than 3k, with the peak at or near 3k. Peak torque, for me at Stage 2, was somewhere around 3k, with peak boost being near 2500. Something isn't right, though your peak numbers look about right. |

I don't think my turbo is in the greatest condition, I mean I know its not, but I don't mind it too much. Before this mod, my boost would peak and valley from 10-15 lbs boost, and this would occur mainly when going up hills on longer pulls. It bothered me really bad, and it was very obvious, I have a defi boost gauge and I just stared at it everytime. Anyways, my mind is in the long term with my car, but I wouldn't mind a newer TD04 for the meantime. Especially since I will be in school and really busy for a while, I can't afford the tickets, nor the insurance ^, let alone the mods to my car

Look on the bright side- you make good torque, but not so quickly that it's putting as much stress on the gears. And TD04s are a dime a dozen, shouldn't be too expensive if you did decide to replace it. HOWEVER, I'd get another tune because it's not just a straight swap if your current turbo really does have problems, because your current tune is taking those problems into account. Essentially, if your turbo ain't right, your tune is not for a standard good-order TD04. |

Yeah I understand that, they tune to the current conditions. I understand that mods need tunes, thats why I don't mind spending $150 to ensure I don't mess my car up. But yeah, less stress on the gears, pro. Low price to replace stock, for sure! Maybe even give me time for a TD04 19T. I want to experience the subaru modifications in stages. and learn as much as I can throughout the process, spending as much time as possible building my way up. Anyways, thanks for the input. good talk. I'll get that pic up...eh maybe tomorrow instead?

I don't think I would worry whether the turbo is on its way out by looking at a graph of what is probably a 3rd gear dyno pull, on low boost, with stock BCS and brand new uncoated/non-wrapped headers. Those things usually conspire to show some seriously late spool on the dyno and the top end still looks strong. Get the headers nice and hot and pull a log on the street.
On a stock 205? What gear? Do you have a log of that posted somewhere? |

I was seeing full boost (21.5 psi technically) at just over 2500 RPMs though in 4th/5th, and around 2700 in 3rd, so by logic I figure that peak torque followed closely behind. That was a stock EJ205 (67k miles) with an uppipe/TBE/GM BCS/professional road-tune, on California 91 octane at 0-400ft elevation. I never did get it dynoed, sorry. |

Opposite Lock: Firstly, Nice Numbers. Also, does the wrap really make that much of a difference? From what I have heard from a few people, my tuner included, that they are more of a hassle and its just not worth the bang for the buck. I actually asked him where I could pick some up, because I like to do things the right way, once. Anyways, what kind of EGT's are you lookin at?
I'm pretty sure it was a 3rd Gear pull. well, whatever gear the car needs to be in to be doing 40 at about 3000 rpms..lol I know because I ask a lot of questions. I told him to set my boost at 16 psi, so I'm not sure what you consider low boost? Audiosavvy: I would also like to see the log of the information you speak of , not because I don't believe you, I would just like to see the mod list on this stock 205 |
