My first post and my first Subaru, a 2011 WRX 5 door in white.
http://i.imgur.com/NE9Ua.jpg
Hey guys, I've been lurking the forum for a few weeks now and I've been blown away by the community here. I haven't seen this level of knowledge, support and community for a long time on an internet forum (oh and some good trolling and lols). But anyway. I just bought my first Subaru today. As I said in the title, it is a 2011 WRX 5 door in white. It is the base model with zero options. I spent weeks trying to find a base with no options and found one in Omaha Nebraska. I live in Austin Texas and Omaha is around 800 miles away. So this Friday I started my trek to the land of corn husking in my 2002 Acura RSX Type-S. I don't know if you know anything about Texas, but it is hot, and a black car with a black leather interior is not the way to go. And a sunroof just makes the hot hot sun burn your eyes. So I came up to 'ol nebrasky (just fyi there are only 2 white 5 door base models for sale in the entire country), the car had only been off the truck for 48 hours. Now let me tell you I loved my RSX, it has served me for 7 years. But I needed AWD or RWD at a minimum (torque steer ooooof). I also needed 4 doors and some space (sorry 370z, you almost fit the bill, but you were way too small). Also my RSX was dying of electronic demons, door locks, trunk locks, SRS light, sometimes wouldn't start unless I slammed the door really hard a few times. So it was time for her to go. So I drove 200 miles today and I have to say, I love the damn car. I mean I knew how it looked on the internet. But in person it looks bad ass. So hear it goes, my likes and complaints based against my '02 RSX: 1. Comfort: The WRX is so smooth on the road, a smooth ride that can just eat up miles. The cabin is much more open and visibility all around is better. Telescoping steering wheel? AWESOME. I soaked up 3 hours of driving like they were nothing where as in the RSX it was a bit of a chore. My one complaint is that being 6'1" and having the seat all the way back, the shifter is a bit far, its not a bad reach, but its a bit more than i'm used to. 2. Stereo: Its ****ing **** and is getting replaced. 3. Power: I'll have to get readjusted to turbo lag, but having useable power at 3.5k rpm, my god, its like oh hey let me downshift from 6th to 3rd for power.... nah let me just push the peddle. I mean I don't need to say more about it, its good. But it needs an intake badly, I can barely hear it when it starts to get nasty. 4. Looks: I mean come on it is basically a Stee (STI if you just say it as a word). I walked into a liquor store and came out with 4 college dudes standing around my car talking about it. So i guess thats cool. 5: Handling: ? Dunno, it "seems" to have less body roll than my RSX, but I haven't had a chance to put it through its paces. 6: Upgrades that will be coming in the next month: Short shifter or some shifter upgrade, new head unit and speakers and possibly sub+amp, AP possible. Anyway this is a wall of text and I've had a bunch to drink to celebrate my purchase and I love drinking in crappy hotels. More pics to come but my camera is out of batteries.

If you have a WRX, i'd really love to see a video of that 6 to 3 downshift....

Grats on the purchase. I'm 4k into my first Subaru, let me tell you that feeling you got when you fired it up the first time to drive off the dealer lot... yeah you know the one... it wont go away for a long time.
I still get excited to start the engine. Hey, I live in Dallas and almost drove to Colorado to buy mine so I know what you had to deal with, again grats and welcome to the club |

Very nice car you got there. A few modifications could help improve the "Turbo Lag".
Congrats on the purchase. |

congrats!!! if at all possible, I would enjoy your car for a few years before even doing any modding. take it through a few autocrosses if you are into that stuff so you get to really learn it's handling limitations. then you'll know what you should target for upgrading/modding and have a clearer picture of your goals.

Don't waste your money on an intake- it's not worth it anytime soon for you. It would be for sound only.

Try the BT-A on the stereo, I found the FM quality is awful but bluetooth actually sounds reasonable until the doors start to rattle.

Congrats on your new car! Welcome to the forum. Thank you for taking the time to type your wall of text in proper paragraph form. Makes wading through it MUCH easier.
As others (or maybe one?) said, enjoy the car stock for a minute. The WRX benefits from well planned suspension upgrades most of all. The brakes can be improved as well. Then you can have fun and bolt an exhaust on and tune 'er up. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how the suspension mods and Accessport or other tune transform the car. Have fun! |

Man. I saw you when you were buying that car. I bought one of the Metallic gray Imprezas they had. Heck, if you remember me. I watched them drive it out for you.
Funny how these things work. Btw, I'm the new owner of a Subaru as well, so I guess we can welcome each other Haha. If you need convincing, you had a backpack with you when you bought it. Just sayin. |

Nice I'm also a former RSX owner with a SWP 2011 . Loved my RSX too, but it was annoying so traded it for a G35 6 speed which was almost as annoying, less fun and bad in snow so here I am..lol.

Hope you enjoy your new car!
I have the same car in Silver. I think there are only two things that are sub-standard with the WRX and that is the HU(under powered but adding a Alpine amp makes a huge difference) and the shocks are way to soft( add a set of adjustable Koni's and the car transforms into a beast) Cobb A/P is nice to have too. |

Head unit is horrible, but the speakers are really not too bad. Just get a new head unit with a signal to noise ratio of > 91/92. That's the ONE figure you need to look for above all others.
Enjoy the car!@ |
