Here we go as promised. Now that I see it in the daylight there is a few more minor flaws I wish I could fix. I am leaving how it is. I am going to black out the screws though. |

Ha ha. I thought about doing that instead of this but this worked out just fine. Cheap and pretty easy. I started with cardboard for the template and placed the template over the actual material and made my cuts.
Thanks fat black for the idea of plastic, this celtic was a **** load easier than fiberglass. |

I got it locally. Look up plastic board in your area. I got mine from www.norvaplastics.com It is only a mile or two away from my house. I called them and told them what I needed it for and that is what he recommended I use. I'm sure there is something or someone that can you out down there.

Definitely gonna try this in the new year, soon hopefully. Edit: Got an idea of my own for this. Pretty sure I'll get some flaming for it but I will show it here if I get around to making one. |

Great craftsmanship but are either of this functional at all ? Will it rip off at 100+ mph ? Does it actually stop the air exiting the underside of the car from tumbling and swirling, reducing vacuum under the car? Air flowing under the car's front bumper compresses and speeds up to squeeze between the car and the ground. Does thisA diffuser create a tunnel or void in the floorpan that allows air to expand and create a vacuum under the chassis.
Again great craftmanship but does it work ? |

There's no way a diffuser on its own is going to stop air underneath the car from tumbling. There also doesn't need to be a void to create a low pressure zone underneath. You can even test this with a bathroom hand dryer.

I buillt a second version of mine, looks the same but the fins are little longer (pic below). The front of mine goes all the way to the rear diff and tucks up. The sides near the wheels also tuck up, the air has to go under diffuser. I have gone 150 (not on the streets) and haven't had any issues, this was on the first version and this new one is better. When there is rain/moisture on the ground I have noticed the air doesn't swirl as much as it used to. If that helps.
This is mostly for looks but if it is functional that is a bonus, I saved myself a **** load of money either way. Last edited by ImNOrobo; 12-13-2012 at 03:31 PM. Reason: poor grammer |

A front splitter is in the works for me along with panels for underneath the car, like the sti had from the factory (only better). I do race/autocross the car, so having something that is functional is beneficial to me.

Yeah, you bought Matt's old car right? The flat black STI from the hampton roads area?? You need more aero for the power you have.

I always wondered how many of the aftermarket diffusers are actually tested for functionality, my guess is very few. I don't think they even cover as much area as mine does, in fact the few I have seen in person is nowhere near as much coverage.
Anyone interested in making something like this should try it, its not that hard. Sorry for the thread jack fat black, you don't seem to answer as many questions as I have. |

wow this is awesome! Def going to have to try it out on my GC! They don't make any good diffusers for them!
EDIT: oh and for all of you that can't find the board that the OP used for his; it's just simple thick poster board. Lol go to the school supply section of either Wal-Mart of Staples/OfficeMax and grab some. All sorts of colors. I'll probably use black so I don't have to use a lot of undercoating.
