Default Honda readying updated Insight for improved fuel economy, better ride

Quote:
After just a few months on the market, Honda engineers are said to be going back to the drawing board on the Honda Insight hybrid. Honda’s answer to the Toyota Prius was initially a sales success, but criticisms about the car’s fuel economy and ride and handling have fast tracked improvements for the Insight.

According to Autocar, Honda is working on a number of improvements for the Insight, including better fuel economy. The Insight currently scores 85mpg in the Japanese testing cycle, trailing significantly behind the third-generation Prius’ rating of 107mpg. It remains unknown what tweaks are being made, but the updated Insight should close that gap.

Addressing concerns about the Insight’s rough ride, engineers are reportedly working on improvements for the car’s suspension. Several complaints have been fielded about the Insight’s rough ride over all but the smoothest of surfaces.

No timeframe has been given for the release of the updated Insight, but a launch could come sooner than expected. After taking the crown of Japan’s best-selling model in April, the Insight has fallen down the sales chart, now ranking behind the Prius and Honda’s own Jazz (Fit).

The Insight is also likely to miss its sales target here in the U.S

Silly honda, firm rides are for people who care about handling and performance, not greeny weenies who want to drive slow everywhere

Yeah ok, keep believing that.

So tell me, what does handling have to do with performance? One is a suspension item, the other an engine/tranny item.

Have you ever driven a small Honda car? They all ride relatively rough....

Oh and the reason I did not put it in that thread,Because this would be the starting point for the new Insight coming(Maybe).

Calm down. I was just pointing out that it was already posted. It is not a personal attack on you - reposts happens, but if people aren't made aware of it, then they'll never know. You've pointed out others who have reposted without hesitation. Not sure why you think it is different for you.

I have no idea who is on your ignore list, but if you are going to post a ton of articles in N&R it would probably be a good idea to not have anyone on your ignore list, or at least don't ingore those that post a lot in this sub-forum. What if I put you on my ignore list and then started a bunch of reposts? Would that make it OK, because I have you on my ignore list?

You do not think handling is a performance characteristic?

They must have went to work after Clarkson's 'kind' words about the Insight.

Actually, I think it is infintile and I only do it to people who do it to me.When I first starting posting news people would use it as tool for post flaming. Then I would catch them doing the samething.Posting without searching. So I am saying that I searched but there is kink in the system. This is why moderators should do the Monitoring and handle it in the proper way.People do not want to read this crap in the middle of a thread. It starts fights,it makes people feel dumb and stupid. If you watch closely you will see alot times I say nothing during a double post(like JC yesterday,I could careless why because it is childess behavior)..You know as well as I do there is alot more to it..It is a game and it is old!!

Seeing a single link in the middle of the thread starts fights and makes people feel dumb? All I did was post a link, that's it. No emoticons. No comment. It is simply to let you know that it was posted elsewhere already. If I start a thread that is a repost, I expect people to let me know. Moderators in this forum rarely catch reposts due to the sheer volume of new threads.

It is ok to make the occasional repost. It does not make you look foolish unless you have a habit of doing it, which it appears that you don't. So, don't take it personal when someone points this out. It doesn't denigrate your contributions. Relax and try to take some perspective on things.

Honda was trying to position the new Insight as a "low priced" hybrid but they didn't get too far on that one. At $17K I think the automotive press would have been more forgiving, but at $20K it is priced nearly the same as a Prius with less space, less power, and less MPG.

Let's see if the improvements work for the Insight. After all, the first generation Prius was not exactly a hot seller in the US market.
