Default 15.2@90 with stage 2 wrx?

So I live in Colorado where the altitude is obviously higher but my 1/4 mile times are absolutley unacceptable. I have a 2005 wrx with STi up pipe, 3inch invidia turboback, SPT short ram, and an open ECU tune on 91 pump gas at roughly 14psi. I went to Bandimere today which is a local drag strip only to have my car running a ****in 15.2.....My best 60ft was a 2.1 and im shifting just below 7 grand. This is basically the exact same time I was running when the car was stock last year. My only idea of what it could be is high temperatures. It was about 83 degreese or so at the track and I don't have a turbo heatshield or intake heatshield. Any ideas? A stage 2 wrx at this altitude should easily be about a 14.2 to a 14.5

can you post up all the information from your timeslip? Just looking at the 2.1 60ft shows there is quite alot of room for improvement.

shift lower around 6k rpm. and there is no reason you cant get your 60' into atleast the low 1.8. you say you are launching hard, are you getting wheel spin (i would think not at that track to nice of a prep job) so are you bogging off the line? I am in ABQ NM and were are a mile high just like you guys. Just keep at it it sounds like you just need more seat time. It will come with time.

Launch the car better. Get launch control added if you want, it's lots easier. Shift lower, 6500 is about right. A stock turbo 2.0 is dead at 7,000. With a 1.8 60' time and shifting lower you will be where you want to be.

Edit- Just saw 90mph. Something is wrong there. Even with awful driving you should trap higher than that. Datalog and be sure the car is running right and not knocking and pulling a bunch of timing.

Thanks for all the help and info. I forgot to mention that I turned the heater on full blast in hopes to blow off some hot air the whole way down the track. I also didn't think about shifting lower so that could help. As for getting a low 1.8 60 I wish I could but im afraid to launch my car that hard being that it has a ****ty tranny and clutch I don't want to blow it up. I thought it was launching hard there was absolutely no bog what soever.

I pull 1.7 on my 5 speed that is the only gear I'm hard on I shift like a granny in every other gear. The car is not running right it seems. Like it was stated above data log if you can.

2.1 60 ft isn't terrible, and even with that you should be movin a lot faster at the end. I don't know how much altitude effects the ETs but stage 2 2.0L usually run in the 13's. So 15 second runs are waaay off.

You should not IDLE your car all the way to the water box. Only start your car to MOVE it while waiting in line. Keep it off. This will help keep your TMIC cool. If you idle your car all the way to the lights, your TMIC is SUPER HOT. This is why I see STi's running 13's on stg2 tunes. hahaha it's just funny.

when i had a top mount i would go to walmart. buy a 10lb chunk of dry ice and stick it on ur intercooler. then take it off before you race. it will litterally freeze your intercooler. i ran 13.7 @ 95 mph on 91 pump and stage 2 in utah. same elevation as colorado pretty much

7k shifts are a bit high for the TDO4. Shift sooner and you'll pick up some time/speed.

Also, your 14psi tune probably leaves alot to be desired

Definitely ice your intercooler if you have to wait in line. Also, if you want a better time, you're gonna have to drive it harder (especially the launch).

I also agree that 14psi is pretty tame.

Who tuned your car? Because it seems to me thats where your "epic failing". I see that you have an Open ECU Tune ... ummm 14 psi of boost, thats lame. Go to a new tuner as the one that did your car seems to be missing alot! If you don't have one around, drop the Open ECU Tune and get the Cobb Accessport and run the Stage 2 Map. You will see a drastic difference with a true quality tune. I understand the Cobb Stage 2 map is not the best of the best quality, as it's so generic. Yet, i can bet it's much better then your current one.

Yeah I didn't do enough research when it came to the people that tuned my car. I live in Colorado and here there are a lot of reputable tunning shops. But because I was stupid and didn't realize who was about to tune my car I took it to a place called Racing Trenz. I guess there have been a lot of complaints about the shop and them messing with peoples graphs after the tune. As for using ice, I did a lot of that. How much boost can a stock wrx turbo handle?

It all depends on what supporting modifications, how much boost it can handle. The point here is not just to turn up the boost and you will get better times. You need all your timing corrected, A/F Corrected, Everything. I'd suggest posting in the section for Colorado and askin whats the best shop within 100 miles to go to. With a good quality tune and practice you will get much better times.

Locate the Shop after doing the Research on Here

Call them up and talk to the Tuner about your situation, your concerns.

Set up a date to go by the shop to have your car tuned properly (using a dyno) and have them look it over. You maybe surprised how bad your past tuner was.

+1 - go to a different (reputable) tuner and have it tuned on the DYNO.

Your MPH is waaay too low for a stage 2. Even if you launched better, you wouldn't pick up 7-8mph. My old 05' 4EAT stage 2 with an OTS 91 octane Cobb map pulled 14.4's at 98mph with the stock converter and valve-body. It was getting 2.3-2.4 60's (mostly because of heat-soak, I could only launch at 4-5lbs of boost).

Give Harvey a call over at SupeRoopair in Boulder, he'll be doing my stage 2, E85 tune if I ever get my swap done.

I've also heard of good things about the guys over at MAC.

Yeah Mac and Superupair are very good shops as well as Revolutions in Colorado Springs. The car was tuned on a dyno using open source and then it was back on another dyno just to do some runs. I'm going to be super pissed if it turns out that it is the tune and not my driving. Id rather learn that I am a ****ty driver then to learn my car is running like ****.

You can shave over a second in ET and who knows how many more mph to your trap speed with a better launch and 1st-2nd gear shift. Get your 60ft to 1.7-1.8 and your 330ft 5.2-5.5.

I also second the notion that a tuned WRX should be making much more than 14psi. A few years back when I had my 02 WRX, my Cobb OTS map boosted 17-18psi and resulted in a 101 trap speed with a 2.0 60ft.
