2013 sti reliable?
alright so hears the deal, i had an 02 wrx wagon and absolutely loved it, very reliable, strong running and just an all around amazing car! well i wrecked it right before i was going to slap a vf39 on it, so i was like meh why not, lets switch to the dark side and i took the jump on an 08 EVO x GSR with 55k on it, well after owning it for 2 months ive put less than 2k miles on it and over $5k in to it just to keep it running, it had an oil leak, coolant leak, than the clutch went out, and the list keeps going. well im sick of it, im getting rid of it! im going back to a subaru! im debating between a 2013 wrx and a 2013 sti... the only thing that scares me about the sti is the ringland in cyll 4... is it reliable...... thats the question...

Just out of curiosity if you loved the bugeye so much why wouldn't you go back to that?
Plus everyone knows the bugeye is the best of the WRXs. |

Just read the latest thread almost identical to this issue, still on the first page. Or do a search for this topic, which really has been talked to death.
Synopsis of 20948098 pages? It's all about the tune. Well a good tune + Good gas (Chevron)+not driving like an asshat and banging the rev limiter and launching it over and over + Letting it warm up before punching it + don't lug the car in 5th gear, floor it going 20 miles an hour to get up to highway speed + Researching your mods before you buy them + getting a quality tune from a reputable tuner for said parts + proper routine maintenance at scheduled intervals = bulletproof Subaru. Go enjoy your 2013. Just print this out and stick it to the visor so you can remember everything. |

AS said above - dont floor it in 4th gear below 2500RPM and 5th gear below 3500RPM - and buy an accessport to get a safe and better performance tune.

i hate to say it but you are wrong about the accessport, the ots maps advance the timing way to much, most people who have the cyll 4 ringland issue are on an ots map lol i know that for sure.

Just leave it stock. It should be reliable enough and if it breaks Subaru can fix it. |

Hmmmm... I wonder if by page 3 what will be the more dominant topic:
WRX vs STi or Reliability (-_-!) I can guarantee if it makes it to page 10 nothing will be resolved. |

Teh STi sucks and will blow 3 motors by 100k. Buy the WRX since it is faster.

All he said was a safe performance map, didn't specifically say an OTS map...

Torqued performance is great. Just get an etune or protune and you'll be fine

from what i have gathered, the sti will blow piston rings easier then the wrx, almost all my friends with the sti have had to replace pistons (all 2011-2013 cars)... that being said, after you replace the pistons, your pretty much worry free... unlike the wrx, because of the ****ty transmission...

I love hearing that "STI's blow ringlands more fastorrrrrrrr." If it has a 2.5L it can blow. I blew my 06. Suck it statistics.
